Rangers are Specialists - Sorry, fixed that now! :-)

Way to over think it.   The ranger will be a scout that can do melee or ranged depending on spec and the Stalker will only have ranged variants and probably be better at its core ranged components w

When I think of Rangers, I think of the 80+ years Tolkien has had them in his books.

You field an odd number of players, 11th man is a general term for the guy or guys who don't fit in the group, yet aren't enough to field a second group

IE someone who has a heal, damage buff, ranged damage, and escape abilities. Best profs at various times, IMO, were ranger, scout, thief.

Feels like it's gonna be just like Tolkien's rangers

What kind of empirical data is "Feeling"?

dont see how the original statement had anything to do with empirical (observed fact) data.  I took it as meaning from the image and lore he felt it appeared the ranger is inspired by THE medieval fantasy ranger archetype, Tolkien's Aragorn whom was a Ranger.

Not to imply Tolkien invented the Ranger concept.  Robin Hood, The Huntsman, and the likes are likely inspirations for Aragorn.

Well I read the books after I started playing AD&D when I around 16 but I still played AD&D first.  They are very similar though and not the pet based hunter from WoW which people seem to be pushing for.

I expect a stealthing class with more utility and less damage than the stalker.  I will probably rotate through both till I find the right "scout" and then find a caster with guild orientated debuffs.

I still wonder what their definition of specialist is.

Considering the casters are Ranged DPS and the melee are Tanks, their definition is someone whose DPS sucks ass AND lacks the armor to take a hit.  So expect stuns, snares, stealth, debuffs, and other ways to control the flow of battle to make up for having bad damage.  Shadowbane had this with some of the dagger professions who relied on procs to murder things while having a slew of utility powers.  Can't outdamage a Wizard, but can still beat him by cheating.

1.  Stalker isn't a caster but is ranged dps.

2.  Stalker won't have stealth?

3.  Proc dagger rogues suck ass in comparison to other rogue builds.

Haha, you haven't played on the emu lately.

I wasn't saying Stalker is a caster, I was saying the casters are ranged dps.  That would be Frostweaver and such.  This is to show the nuke-heavy classes are considered DPS and can't take a hit in cloth.  The tanks meanwhile we can expect to take a hit because they're tanks while traditionally having the worst damage as well.  So once again answering your question that I quoted, Specialists will be the guys who can prolong the fight to make up for not having nukes or armor.

Understand?

Presently on emu, there's no reason to even play a scout.  The job can be replaced with bounty hunter because of nerfs to the promotion.  The age of scoutbane is dead.  Long live the dagger thieves.

Though Vampire Scouts are still played because of summon rune.
