Crowfall, released its latest game update today, Convergence. This update transitions the formerly passive skills system into a convergence point for action. The new system empowers players by introducing more customization, deeper engagement, and active talent and attribute advancement as you play. “Crowfall has always been a game about player autonomy.  Players drive the economy.  Players define the political landscape.  The fate of this open-world universe rests solely in the hands of our players. Our goal, as designers, is to get people into the action.  We want to remove the timegates so common to traditional MMOs -- whether those gates require a ‘grind’, or simply the passage of time”, said J. Todd Coleman, Creative Director of Crowfall.  Read more...

Now I understand.

If you want for real to play a game with a passive skills system,  you have to chose a game whose lead designer says a phrase like "I've been waiting for years for something to build that kind of system in a fantasy game!".

You know, apparently this exact phase was said by a guy named @thomasblair. :D
Well, I mean it happended if a certain @jtoddcoleman can be trusted. :D :D

Catelyn: War will make them old, as it did us. I pity them.
Mathis: Why? Look at them. They're young and strong, full of life and laughter. And lust, aye, more lust than they know what to do with. There will be many a bastard bred this night, I promise you. Why pity?
Catelyn: Because it will not last. Because they are the knights of summer, and winter is coming.

Do I get a refund since passive training is exactly why I backed the game?

Sadly, I didnt get a refund when they changed gear drops from mobs, added leveling, added kill x quests, removed passive training, added grind for the sake of grind, decided against ability to build anywhere, decided against having an economy, decided not to have paperdoll looting... There is simply nothing left from kickstarter design, probably why they never could get and keep players over the past 5 years.

Kind of frustrated that five years after backing the game and following its development they completely remove one of the most interesting things about it.

It feels like the game just keeps becoming more like the same MMOs it wanted to get away from.

From my POV, someone who doesn't have the time to level a new character every time I get a few days to play in a campaign, this puts a pretty big hurdle in front of me any time I'd actually want to play the game.

Consider WoW, where I know I have a handful of characters I'd only have to level once, usually pretty fast with new content.  Or EVE Online, where, if I were playing it, I'd be able to log in and have my skills slowly grow even when I don't have the time to play.

Unless I'm mistaken for how this new system works:
Crowfall has completely inverted both, so now any time I want to play a new campaign I have to worry about getting to max level again.  And so would my friends.

Not gonna lie, I probably won't be playing the game at all if this is the case.

Well apologies if that's the case, I can't find any comprehensive info about how it's supposed to work in terms of how players/vessels are split now.  It's a huge shift in what the game is and probably needed a more thorough explanation.

Guess I'll wait for a video or something?

Nevertheless, it was a selling point and Crowfall customers purchased a game with planned passive training starting from kickstarter update on 9th March 2015 ending to Q&A of 1st December 2020.

Since a wide audience called for removing it, I can't have doubts the very small part of backers which find troubles with this "diversion" could be easily refounded. Don't you think?

Yes, you are mistaken.

There is no need to level a new character for each campaign. You can use the same character from a previous campaign in the next campaign.

People also paid for voxels, they were tried and like passives they couldnt get it to work, where is the voxels outcry, or is it just people who don't play the game that are crying cause they cant be competitive playing 1 day a week

People also paid for voxels,

Yes, voxels were in the original vision, but were trashed in the early stages of development.
I'm quite sure they disappeared from Crowfall's plan since October 2016 (Big World), but link me some post if I should remember better.
Some of qualities which voxel system should have had were inherited by building placement. Possibly other similar qualities will be acquired with the widely requested "free building".

This month ACE introduced a "diversion" cutting a system five years old and two times revisited, without a hint of a replacement on its positive quality (I'm not denying passive training was mostly bad).
Passive training was the only kind of account progression. The limit to maximum gainable point the only way not to succumb by very dedicated players (usually demonized as "no-lifers").

In Belt Age a middle/large sized guild can conjure a specialist out of resources.

I reckon cases are very different.

However I suppose people asking for a refund in name of the lost voxels are a number even smaller then passive training nostalgics.
Therefore, since the game mantains the widely requested features, why do not refund all backers complaing for loss of either one?

I would appreciate links to official sources instead of just "no you're wrong" but then being smug is what some people use the internet for.

I wasn't being smug. You said you might be mistaken and I confirmed that is true. I would think you would be glad you don't have to level a new character for each campaign world. But then, maybe snapping at people who share good news is what you use the internet for?

You want an official source for them not saying that you will need to level a new character for each campaign? Where did you get that idea from in the first place? Perhaps you can provide the official source for that?

EDIT:

Here is an official source:

You didn't confirm anything, and I'm not seeing anything from developers on the forum or frontpage about how the skill system is supposed to work with the crows/vessels split.

If you want to be helpful, then show me where you're getting your info?

I'll make a deal with you. If you show where you got the idea that you would have to level a new character for each campaign, I will happily provide some links of my own.
