The "Other Games" Ghetto

I like that there is a "Shadowbane" category...followed by an "Other Games" category, lol.

Kinda says a lot...I think the sb folks who have been claiming this game is for them may be on to something, based on the forum divisions. Which is fine, I think it can remain fun for a lot of people, but the wording from devs and the "other games" ghetto kind of provides some hints about the way things are going. Curious what others make of things like this.

Anyway, I guess I'm supposed to be discussing other games. I personally preferred the Tetris B song to the A version or whatever.

For the record, I don't think anyone wants categories for other specific games. At all. That's what makes this SB/Ghetto division odd...and it's just interesting as a window into the intended audience.

I feel like they made a Shadowbane subforums only because they're a very large amount of them on the forums and instead of their "Where is everyone from Shadowbane" or "Shadowbane compared to x" everywhere, it can be placed in an easy to see and organize sub forum. But mostly, like I said, it was probably due to the sheer amount of posts about Shadowbane or comparing to Shadowbane.

Most of us learned about this project from the announcement at http://www.play2crush.com/

Everything about that announcement is the equivalent of a dog whistle to the ears of Shadowbane players.

Or pretty much every other MMO players not jaded yet. It seems like every MMO has promised that same announcement, but none have delivered. So here we are waiting, for it to be done right.

yeah, but the whole point is that the announcement was a dog whistle for a lot of players, from a variety of backgrounds, not just SB. The fact that it's perceived as pure SB bait, both by SB players and the devs, kind of ghetto-izes other players for no particularly good reason. If it's a solid pvp game, you're going to get interest from a variety of folks...but if it starts out as SB 2.0...and both SB players and the game reinforce that impression (with categories like SB/"Other Games") it puts limits on how the game is perceived, for...again...no particularly good reason. it's not a problem, it'll play out however it plays out, it's just interesting to see the different assumptions that are being made about non sb folks.

once the game is out for testing, i think all of these non-issues will evaporate.

Jah has a point.  "Play to Crush" was the official Shadowbane trademark, and setting up the play2crush.com was a good way to whistle up our ragged band of PVP junkies.

right. I guess we're agreeing that this has been very shadowbane oriented. my point is that it didn't need to be, it could have brought in a wider range of players by not making it so sb specific. lots of and lots of players from a variety of backgrounds are looking for a brutal pvp game, one that is different from what's out there. making it so sb oriented this early on pushes away non-sb folks for no particularly good reason.

ultimately, I don't think it really matters...if the game is solid, people will join regardless of their background. this SB/Other Game nonsense will go away. it's just weird to see the game press the sb stuff so hard, this early, when pleny of folks are coming here from other places and are just as interested in a challenging, brutal, niche pvp game. (niche meaning for specialists, not for everyone, etc)

only one i see still pressing the sb stuff is you. how'd this thread even become about sb? it's in the "other games"

lock it down.

sb stuff comes up for the sake of comparison in relation to the "other games" ghetto they set up for us. it was interesting since discussing other games, sb and otherwise, doesn't even seem necessary in a crowfall forum. but I can go back to other game topics if you like... maybe more tetris music?  I think the C version is actually from Bach's French Suites, menuet number 3, but I'd have to double check that.

then why not let the people who aren't make their own judgement about crowfall without first having to make their own judgement about sb?

some serious noodle riding around here.

I don't think anyone here is discussing sb, just the forums and what they say about the game's intended audience...and the extent to which that intended audience reveals misconceptions about non-sb players. doesn't have anything to do with sb really, not sure why you have your own forum yet you're in here getting defensive. relax. discussions happen.
