Fairly excited for the news as well, would be pretty cool for every class to have pets

You are a plague on the gaming community with this pet mentality.

How so?

I'm not saying that i want classes to be reliant or built off of the pets, but it is another aspect that adds to character customization in general and i find that exciting.

C'mon guys... Let's stop this.

My guess is the pet system will act like the falconry discipline, will not be a ranger locked.

That's cool, but rangers must have a buff while using pets discipline

EDIT: Perhaps they will gonna be the main tamers of the game... in a crafting way, cus ACE stated that the pet system will be also a part of the crafting system. Like breeding.

No more R.A. Salvatore books for you, this inherent need for people to have combat pets is disturbing.  I have a dog, I love my dog but I don't need a video game with my dog.  These auto attacking mobile pets undermine the skill of the class, lets just make them consmetic with a passive bonus and not an active attacker bc honestly that poorly made socks is lame as custard.

As a friend, he hasn't read R.A. Salvatore books. I have.

We aren't saying that a Guenhwyvar is a necessity, (this is what Disciplines are for, and that's what SykotixRaw is getting at.)

Rangers shouldn't have the base ability to have pets - but ALL classes could have pets if they wanted to build them that way. Even like you said, even if they are only added as a passive bonus.

OK that's fine and dandy but it seems the poll itself wants a pet based hunter style ranger and it defeats the purpose of skill when your pet does all the work.

Why? What makes you think a ranger deserves to be inherantly better at a disc anyone can build around. That wouild make taking the disc a waste of time on any other archetypes. What if, say, a druid wanted a pet because he's built mostly around supports and wants something to help him kill mobs?

The whole point of it being a disc is so that it's a viable build option for all archetypes, not so that rangers can feel special and be "the pet class" the point is that there IS no "pet class" and that taking pet discs and having really fierce pets means you're kinda bad at other stuff.

SWG creature handler skill tree was like that. if you invested heavily in to it, you had some extremely potent combat NPCs, which were great for farming but not super great in PvP because investing that heavily in to pets means your character is almost completely reliant on them.

If you want a pet that's not just a vanity piece you should be prepared to be completely gimped when your pet is killed.

This is literally my mind-set on pets for CF. Thanks PopeUrban, for putting my thoughts into words :P

If you make your characters sole role a pet-user (which you will be able to do with disc's), you'd better be prepared for when that pet(s) is killed and you are defenseless.

In the respect of the Ranger, I stay true to what I said: I want to see the Ranger to stay away from the 'core mmo' feel of being a distance-pet user.

They should be more involved with scouting, etc. They are a Specialist Class after all, not a DPS one. (Unless of course, you use the dics' to do so.)

I think you guys seem to be forgetting that not all archetypes will have access to all the same discs. Its entirely possible that certain taming abilities are only available to the more naturey ones.

Todd does love his lore, so this could and will probably hold true.

If done right, sure. The biggest problem with pets in MMORPGs is that they never do them right. They are always worthless and the class ends up being underpowered because of them.

It really depends if the make the pets as useful as the Advenger class in Lineage 2. as the panther was very well balanced.

Maybe the reason why Rangers are a specialist class is because you can equip your pet with gear and skills. Who knows maybe you can makee your pet more DPS? TANK or even AOE. Be good if the pet has skills that you can also train as that would be pretty sweet to individual master skills as the pet would act as a second character.

stop associating rangers with pets please

Well care to explain what this means "Female Ranger revealed

“Another of the archetype concepts is ready for you: the female Ranger! As an added bonus to this one, we've given her a wolf pet – since we achieved that stretch goal when we crossed the $1.7m line in "?????????????????????

(No, this doesn't mean that the female Rangers automatically get pet wolves!  It's just a picture, folks!)

This is actually the first concept where we're showing an Archetype with a Discipline equipped (The Wolf). Which I really like!

Balancing pets is gonna be really tough. They have to be strong or worthwhile enough to have a reason to take them, but not so strong or useful that they will be a required disc for everyone to have. There has to be a reason why I would want X disc over the pet disc.

I could easily a game play scenario where everyone in the game has a pet and it just turns stupid.
