Is Ranger Crowfall's Most Popular Archetype?

Recommended Posts

According to this poll as of right now, Ranger is the most popular archetype in Crowfall.

Personally, I was kinda hoping to be a rare breed, given the specialist tag, but it seems that won't be the case.

I don't know, I imagined Rangers would stalk dense forests, waiting for a lone passer-by to walk near and submit the upper hand under ambush, or to scout out ahead on behalf of larger parties before a siege or open-field battle. With more Rangers than anyone else that effect is sort of diminished.

On the other hand, having as many people testing out skills and stats as possible would be nice. Plus the sweet, sweet montage videos...

For me personally, it's the attitude. "I know! Bloody heroes, right?!"

This dude's talking to me in a language I can understand. It gives me the impression that someone was having a bad day and wanted to somehow canonize that feeling so suddenly it was the rangers bio. All the other characters have this near-transparent sheen of metered, tempered, fakeness to them but this guy, I mean I can imagine him outside having a smoke with you blurting this stuff out. Dude's having a rough day, just wants a cigg, and you say the wrong thing.

They seem to be the most popular at the moment, but hopefully we'll be able to have more of a variety in the archetypes we end up seeing. There are so many cool and different ones I expect one will soar in popularity at times and some will probably become more popular once the alpha/beta/actual game is released and people can see how each archetype plays.

It's easy.  The other two specialist archetypes are not vanilla and thus appeal to a smaller crowd.  Your choices for specialist are odd Guinea pig, feminist assassin or Strider, gee I wonder which one appeals to the most common demographic of gamers.

If assassin wasn't gender locked it would be that.  If duelists weren't guinea pigs we might be third.  Also the standard warrior types are getting diluted between four very samey archtypes in the knight/templar/champion/legionaire.  While everyone who tends to default to "rogue" types and doesn't do weird races is getting pushed towards ranger.

That's not a ranger, go look for the assassin or the duelist to have that but Ranger doesn't scream pickpocket.

Polls have zero reflection in what gaming communities want.  Most games can't get even 10% of the communities to activly read the boards yet alone post often.  The boards are for asshats like me and I guess you too.

Pre-alpha polls are in what way binding for the actual game? ;)

Everything we know about the game is in an early state. Why make any threads at all?

Forums are to discuss, m8.

Good point, but a lot of people did vote. I'd say a pretty significant amount of people interested in this game regular the forums, esp. because it's inchoate.

Yea, I was interested in trying out an Assassin, but the gender locked class doesn't really interest me. I will most likely be making a Ranger, as it is a class I have always loved. My first D&D character and EverQuest character was a Ranger.

I wouldn't take the polls too seriously either at the moment. Especially since the sample size is so small, relative to the amount of people that are going to be playing. No one has even played the game, and decisions on who/what you are bringing to a campaign with the people you are playing with is going to be a big deal.

I think we are getting a little ahead of ourselves with looking at class populations in a game so early in development :P

Assassins have three strikes against them: genderlocked faerie feminazies, some people don't mind any of those things but i think it will drive a lot of people who want to play the standard stealth killer away from them and into ranger.

I always loved the duel wielding Ranger of D&D.

I hope one of the promotion classes focuses on melee more. Stealth in, get the jump, hit them with a couple of burst melee attacks, then pluck them off as they run away... :D

I can't in all honesty decide at all just yet. Not because all are awesome but because we know nothing about the game plays out.

I'm leaning the most over ''Druid'' atm, especially with the image i have in my head for the male version. I just hope it's less flowerpower and more summoning typhoons, tornadoes and commanding over the wildlife, maybe even shapeshift? :P They do state that druids will be extremely ''cold''.

And not to mention, it also depends on the secondary classes. :P Knight seems fun with the archer subclass thingie.

The polls will change insanely when more info comes out for the subclasses and the actual playstyle of these classes. CAN'T WAIIIITT

I don't think it will change among the specialist classes.  One is Strider, one is the angriest fae would be amazon and the other has an innate fear of Falconry.  The 9 promotion classes amongst the three specialist classes better be so drastically different from each other that they are basically needed or the more odd races will fall to the wayside as the largest demographic of players will be white young men who play themselves in these games.
