Is Ranger Crowfall's Most Popular Archetype?

Recommended Posts

I hope the ranger is a rogue without stealth, more utility than stabbing things in the back, then I can drink all of your tears and finally get my final form.  If the rangers are based off the nights watch and that means they wouldn't really be a stealth class.  Stealth is a cheap overdone mechanic in mmo's, lets liven this poorly made socks up.

I'd like a legit mixed-range class for once, with perhaps a limited stealth disc option. Given the opportunity I'd probably low-train a disc that gave me stationary stealth, just for peepin' and baiting scouts.

Well the archer rune will probably give that option to all of the tanks and I am pretty sure the Ranger from this game will have archery by default since the sb ranger didn't and was the red headed step child of SB.

My kids, age 10 and 13, from time to time declare what they want to do when they grow up and I remind them that no matter what they choose, we will support them but they will change their minds many, many times before they even get to college.

I see choosing an archetype in this game the same way. Many will pick something similar to classes they have played in other games, others will pick something entirely new to them - and players who gravitate toward healer classes will more or less me forced to shake things up.

As far as Rangers in particular.../shrug. The class looks cool but its not the only ranged damage dealer available. I think Knights have a skill path that allows them to be an archer of sorts, for example.

People tend not to gravitate toward specialist type classes. They may claim they want it, but then they play and realize they arnt doing the deeps then change. I see this happening most with ranger. I have a feeling that most of the people who want ranger, actually want stalker.

I would expect something simpler to play as being the most played class.

Something with simpler mechanics, yet less power.

A solid quote, I'd say.

They seem to be the most popular at the moment, but hopefully we'll be able to have more of a variety in the archetypes we end up seeing. There are so many cool and different ones I expect one will soar in popularity at times and some will probably become more popular once the alpha/beta/actual game is released and people can see how each archetype plays.

Note that they are only the most popular by a few percent... there will be PLENTY of variety. Plus we don't even know the skills or equipment of each class yet, just very general stuff (knight is a tank, assassin is an assassin (who knew?), Templar is a somewhat less tanky tank, etc.)

You are surprised that the Ranger is the most popular class in an MMO? Its historically the kiddie, gimmie, no skill necessary class of every mmo. Not trying to be insulting, I just can't imagine you were being serious when you wrote that.

Rangers, Hunters, whatever the variant, are always the most over powered just based on the nature of being a physical ranged damage.

Funny thing is... I think my three main characters will be a Ranger, a Duelist, and a Stalker...  I like rogues.

Ha, Same for me as well.  Those are three I want to try the most, but I am also interested to see how Champion and the Templar flesh out.
