Fury Class

I think the disciplines are things you can add flair to your archetype.  Things like turning into a werewolf for a short duration combat buff, falconry so you can have a pet/scout falcon, or a discipline that lets you get more skill points in spears.  The base skills for all Templars -> Furys will be the same for all then you can add on your custom disciplines to make the character more yours. 

 

At least that is how it sounds to me anyway. 

Thats what I meant, the things you described above could be done with discipline runes of this type if they exist of course.

I see what you are saying, but I would still rather see the Fury as a storm wielder then let the disciplines give them more options instead of having fury disciplines that other archetypes can use.

If templar are religious warriors then they have to be believing in a deity that has such power or a background that makes sense for them to have that specific abilities. Anyway we will see :D

I would be willing to bet they have a god of storms or thunder or something along those lines.  You could probably get away with being a specialized sect of those that follow mother nature.  

 

While I am just guessing at all this I think it would be pretty sweet to have a spear wielding, lighting throwing, wind wielding bad bottom archetype out there.

the Fury concept really stood out, she looked so badass and full of martial wisdom.

 

I would suspect maybe being more CC and damage oriented, like using the spear to sweep for a knockdown, the spear helicopters around their bodies horizontally for a slow and protection buff (the more enemies it hits, the higher the temporary protection stack) or maybe a  ferocious thrusting dash as a way to leash and latch onto escaping foes to stay ontop of them as you find your kill, or (as an escape), and vertically twirling for concentrated damage.

 

Like I feel it would be some sort of loosely berserkerish class with more precision and martial discipline? Sacrifice tankiness for mobility and damage?

Minus the eastern martial elements and show off ness? nothing ll remain :P not that I would mind for a similar style with smaller swipes.

Oh don't get me wrong I knew exactly what Oberyn is doing, he is after all my fav GoT character, but he is using wushu? I think that's why I noted it nothing else, just expecting a more western style, and talking about swiping I want a sweep to make the opponent fall down!

Western spear specialists make similar wind milling motions, albeit it is less showy and more strength/purpose driven. Viking spears would be double ended for example, the large spear head on one side, and a spike on the other so that in combat they could use both sides. Vikings also tended to make use of oak and metal banding so the entire spear length would be reinforced and hard as balls to break/cut through, making for better parrying and more strength transfer. Celts did not band them in metal but still chose oak for the spear haft for strength and durability which the Romans, and later the Saxons, and later the Britons found it hard to chop through the way their own spears were.

Of course that is what I want mostly,showy is nice but not the impractical kind :D

I think Furies should focus more on magic DPS, becoming a hybrid mage-soldier.

Obviously the class should be allowed in any faction like they all will be.

Furies won't lose any of their base Templar abilities,

but their magic attacks and showy magic defenses should be enhanced and augmented with new ones.

I like the Idea of adding electrical and wind or water (storm) powers to the Fury's playbook, too.

This guy should wait until halftime and twirl that thing to the band's tune.

He would die fast against someone who can fight.

A solid parry would make him drop that spear. His unprotected head would look lovely spitted on his weapon

This week Blair stated that templars will be a hybrid between Knight and Confessor.

So the Fury would likely be somewhere closer to the confessor than the Knight.

Nay, this is too simplistic. My view thus far is that Art Craft won't do anything deemed "excessive". This means, even if Templar is between Knight and Confessor, their role and their progression will be unique for its own niche. I feel being a hybrid is only in relation to its abilities, meaning mechanics borrowed.

 

The Fury should focus on mid-close range fighting, staying at a safe distance from melee enemies, and attacking with decisive and debilitating thrusts rather than swings.

I would agree, as spears are primarily thrusting weapons, not swinging ones.

I can get on board with this I love spears as a weapons and i feel most games don't do them justice if they even add them.

For millennia the Amazons have dwelt apart from the peoples of the World, their great empire hidden in the heart of the impenetrable jungles of the South. Through all that time, powerful Wise Women have protected them, acting as the keepers of ancient secrets and powerful magic. It is said that a millennium ago an Amazon sculptor named Lyestra discovered the energy locked within everything, energy that can be used for creation and transformation, but which can only be released through the destruction of the vessel that holds it. The Amazon witches named this force the Fury, and adopted its name as their own. Weather witches without equal, Furies call forth the destructive potential hidden within the sky, unleashing storms, gales, and floods upon their enemies. Legend has it that the ancient Furies could also call forth power from earth and fire, but that these ancient secrets have been lost.

Both loved and feared by the Amazons they protect, Furies live almost feral lives at the edges of Amazon settlements, living like hermits in caves or secluded huts. The power to channel and shape the Fury is born of pain and sacrifice, so the furies deprive themselves of all luxury and refinement. Fasting, meditation, and even self-mutilation are the keys to their power. Furies adorn themselves with dozens of fetishes, handmade talismans, and striking body paint. The Furies learned long ago how to work together to produce greater magical effects. Three Furies casting together are perilous indeed, and the High Circle of Furies can call up a storm so terrible that it can lay waste to an entire region. Though they look and act like primitive Healers or shamans, Furies do not worship the forces of weather and lightning - they command them, with as much detachment and scholastic discipline as any Wizard or Priest. Like all Amazons, Furies are masters of the bow and spear, and can be formidable warriors even without their powers.

From the very foundation of the Amazon Empire, the Furies have served as advisors to the Amazon Queens. Their cryptic words carry much weight within Amazon society, and over the centuries the Sisterhood of Furies became the power behind the Amazon throne, for no queen had the will or courage to dispute them. The jungles of the South vanished in the Turning, lost on a fragment of the World or perhaps destroyed altogether. The few Amazons who were left behind at the borders of their former Empire turned to the Furies for guidance, and now the weather witches are the overt rulers of the wandering Amazons who remain in the World, searching for their lost sisters.

Narrative

Look around you: The World you see is a calm one. The rocks and stone of the earth, the wood of the trees, the infinite vault of the sky… they all seem stable and fixed, yes? Know this - all stability is an illusion. A tiger may lie still as a stone when she sleeps, but in the blink of an eye she springs, like lightning, and her fury is unleashed. It is so with all the World. A violent fire of change and motion, a fury, burns within everything, frozen into stillness as water freezes into ice. If unleashed haphazardly, the fury is wasted and its vessel is broken. But if one is clever, careful, and focused of will, the fury's energy can be harnessed and used to transform the things of the World, just as fire hardens a clay vessel or lightning fuses sand into glass. The knowing is the key.

Of all the peoples of the World, only the Daughters of Phaedra, the Amazons, understand the secrets of the hidden Fury. The wisest and keenest among us have devoted ourselves to the the Fury's power, and we have taken its name as our own. We Furies have looked into all of the elements of the world, seeking to unleash the power within them. Long have we known how to take the still air and whip it into wind, wring rain from the clouds, and unchain the lightning, the Fury of Air. The ways of air and water and the weather they spawn are well known to us, and the glorious Empire of the Amazons prospered long under our watchful eyes. Never did drought trouble the hidden Valley of Delgana, ancient home of the Amazons, nor was it ever ravaged by flood. Once there were great Furies who could temper the wrath of the earth, raising mountains and calling tremors, but since the Turning all of their wisdom has been lost to us.

We Furies have always guarded the secrets of our craft, hiding it inside walls of superstition, mystery, and rumor. We live apart from our sister Amazons, in squalor, and tell them tales of wind spirits and the ghosts of our ancestors. They think us shamans who call the favor of the dead and spin the breath of the wind. This is not so, but they ask few questions, and the lies make them braver, so who are we to correct them?

For generations, our Sisterhood swayed the will of the Queen, and ours were the hands that steered our Empire from the shadows. Two centuries ago, we saw that the time has come for the Amazons to go forth from our hidden valley, leave our jungles, and shake the World. So we conquered, and all the power of flood and lightning, hail and gale swept away our enemies. So we were far from our ancient home when the Day of Woe came.

With our power comes great danger, for the fury can be deadly if trifled with by the unworthy. Look at the state of the World today - somewhere in the Outside, some man tried to tap into the Fury of the entire World, and in so doing the earth cracked, and the world was ruined. In that moment, the South of the World was sundered, and the way to our beloved Valley was lost. At that instant, all of the Earth Furies, the singers of earthquakes, cried out in terror, and fell into madness. They still gibber and shriek, chained in deep caves, dying though unable to die. And the Fury of the world was wasted, for now nothing can die, and nothing truly new can be made. A Fury need only look to the black face of the sun, and always be reminded not to reach beyond the limits of her power. Ruin is the only reward for such foolishness.

Now the Amazons are wanderers, searching for a way to return to our home. Perhaps Delgana was destroyed in the Turning, or perhaps it endures still, on some island in the Void beyond our reach. None can say. We Furies still serve as the leaders of our sisters, working our magic on the wider world, unlocking what fury remains since the Turning. Perhaps, if we do our work well, we might transform this broken World, and make it wondrous again, or bring back our beloved jungle. Perhaps we are doomed to wander forever, and must seize a new home by force. The winds will tell.

 

The Fury in the CF image is using a Stormcaller's Spear like the furies in SB used, too.

 

Templars were a promotion class as well, and even though they were drawn from Warrior source class, they were zealots, like CF's Confessor in the lore.

Born in the tumult that followed the Turning, the Church of the Cleansing Flame has grown throughout the Age of Strife, and few are left untouched by its endless crusade for Justice and Righteousness. Fire creates light and warmth, and thus the Confessors of the Flame seek to illuminate the innocent, drive away all shadow, and expose the taint of evil. But to effect real change in the World, the Fire must burn all that is impure. The Templars, fanatical soldier-priests of the Cleansing Flame, have pledged themselves to this end. Templars are the strength of the Temple, enforcing its will in the World and smiting any who oppose the cause of Righteousness.

I'm thinking that Furies will embrace the Fire Magic aspect of the templar Archetype more than the other two promotion classes.

Loved and played furies a lot in SB...   tons of AoE debuffs (Hex), Lightening AoE (Call Storm) and Wind Blast
