Templar Promotion Classes

Recommended Posts

Anyone else notice the Templar with the Spear/Polearm (Fury) in the most recent artwork?

That got me pretty excited for a viable spear/Polearm class...

It was a surprise to say the least.

I didnt think that the promotion classes could change the entire fighting style of your archetype.

Templar is a 2H class...

ACE mentioned that prerequisites for promotion classes would be what they can equip as their base archetype.

If you can't take a shield to start, you wont be able to later, etc...

You say that and yet the Knight can Dual Wield, Sword and Shield, or use a Bow in his promotions.

Where was said that the knight (base archetype) could not use those weapons? I'm just curious...

I will also have to find the Dev response that said the prerequisite to use a weapon would be tied to the basic class, but I could be wrong...and probably am...

I have no problem admitting that.

Really looking forward to see what roles all 3 promotion classes will fill. Fury seems like it would be a damage. With a name like Fury and a big spear they look like they could pump out some nice damage. Since the Templar starts as a tank I can only guess that one of these 3 will with out a doubt be a tank promotion. Hope we get more soon!

*Edit*    Also for what it is worth, since there is art for the Falconry Discipline on Templar. Seems very likely that it will be available to us that wish to use it on Templar.

The spear done it for me , classed picked fury here I come

Same, I've always been a spear guy. Or at least a non-magic focused, slapping you around with a staff guy.

I rather enjoy the Odin theme here.

Male Templar with a spear and falconry, just hope I can get an all black falcon and can name the sucker Hugin or Munnin.

Always been a fan of spears, highly useful weapon offensively or defensively...just hope they don't make them use sword animations like so many other games do >.> That kills it for me every single time...spears, real world fighting, are also amazing weapons for parrying and deflecting anything thrown your way.

Spear or Polearm would make perfect sense for Templar. Reach would be great if it is present in the game, and in keeping with the backstory, I know I wouldn't mind an extra foot or so between me and the Hunger Ghouls I'm constantly putting down. I can't wait or promotion class info on Templar. Fury seems straight forward, curious about the Judge.

Paladin feels like a melee defensive/supportive promotion with strong ties to holy powers.

Judicator feels like a melee offensive promotion class with strong ties to fire.

Fury feels like a melee specialist with strong ties to wind and lightning.

I hope that weapon performance isn't tied too closely to promotion class selection. While I suspect skill-wise that I'd like to play a Paladin, if I'm pidgeon-holed into using a 2H Mace because Paladins have a higher maximum skill level for it over the other weapons, I'l be extremely disappointed.

If I have to level 2H Mace up to unlock the promotion, but can then freely switch to 2H Sword or Spear and still be at maximum efficiency, however, that's totally fine.

You will be saddened then, the prestige classes are linked to weapons. The largest indicator to this was the knight prestige classes. It is kind of hard to play a sentinel without a bow.

You'll have larger profiecency skill levels in the weapons your class uses. That doesn't mean (unless a skill requires it) you HAVE to use that weapon though hopefuly, meaning you can always trick people as to what your prestige is.

The degree to which they are linked, and the prevalence of those links (i.e. how many promotion classes will actually be linked directly to specific weapons like the bow) are all unconfirmed at this point.

I would love to see a halberd on this guy! I love the halberd such a damage type weapon! Plus good blocking abilities! Great mace is nice too! :)
