What Are The Sub Classes Of Duelist?

Recommended Posts

I guess on a serious note, I think the logical specializations will be:

Sapper (a.k.a. Combat Engineer, Tunneler, Saboteur, Munitionist, Grenadier)

- This will be focused on the battlefield "specialist" role using explosives and burrowing.

Swashbuckler (a.k.a. Blademaster, Musketeer)

- This will be focused on the individual combat prowess with blades and firearms.

Architect (a.k.a. Builder, Sculptor, Scientist)

- This will be focused on crafting skills.

Off twitter Q&A a little earlier:

Q: #CFQuestions What is your favorite Archetype and why is it the Guinecean Duelist?

A: @_Teekey_ @CrowfallGame it's the Guinecean slayer, actually. you'll meet him, soon.

If we find a promotion class that hints at a Guinecean artist, I might find it too tempting to roll a Guinecean (For I am obviously high class).

Being arrogant and physically weak is too fun.

From the Duelist backstory, we have confirmed Engineer promotion class:

I will add Merchant

and Sniper, with a pennsylvania long rifle, which is also a flintlock muzzleloader. Rifling would be the only technological improvement over what we've seen so far. A rifle would give the Sniper a better range than even a longbow.

If Merchant is too many crafting promo classes, then maybe Swashbuckler, with a rapier (perhaps even a hollow rapier that can inject poison?)

I can't imagine poison being part of this class. It doesn't seem very honorable. Definitely can see a swashbuckler of some kind. Maybe with some bravado-based taunts?

Most of my ideas I can think of for a Duelist come from the class of the same name in Dragon Age 2.

Since we're on the topic of digging holes, has anyone considered a class that specializes in constructing traps (i.e. pit falls, trigger traps, Indiana Jones boulders, etc.)?

That's been touched on specifically in the context of digging holes. If you dig through the Duelist sub-forum you'll find a link to a dev response about it.

Exchange was approximately

Q: If I dig a pit under the ground can people fall into it?

A: We like the idea and we're working on going that direction. Voxels help.

Aka nothing rock-solid but a generally favourable attitude towards it.

Not sure if they are entirely new archetypes or just promotions but the new video on War Stories had concept of pretty much a guinicean form of each "class". You have the duelist obviously for melee DPS, your slayer for the assassin playstyle, a mage guinea pig that seems to be based off the confessor (for magic/ranged), another samurai looking one, a king (which just seems to be an example of what a king attire might look like on any Guinean)...and one in a tuxedo...not sure about that last one

"Samurai looking one".

That sounds so cheesy, I want it.

I tend to avoid videos, but the weekend is approaching. What is this War Stories thing you speak of?

Basically it's on the Crowfall youtube and it just had past shadowbane players explaining scenarios they had during the game since Shadowbane is the closest thing to Crowfall for comparison. But as all Crowfall videos do, they have concept in the background and one has a sheet of five guiniceans.

If i had to guess on the Sub classes i would imagine.

1- a sub class based on crowd control and back line infiltration (burrowing heavy ect)

2- a "puss in boots" type  with a rapier and a pistol  (evasion based ,close range combat)

3- the Engineer focusing on building support items and "turret based items" - perhaps even a way to smugle resources in underground tunnels

as a side note id love to see a dual pistol  or longe range rifle setup on one of the sub classes.

  just my thoughts IMHO YRMV

I'f I had to guess three i would say;

1. A subclass around digging holes and redesigning land.

2. a subclass who is specialised into pistols/ ranged combat

3. A subclass who has some tricking/rogue like abilities to keep people confused

My predictions/hopes

1. Pistoleer - Medium ranged class adept at staying at range, but also highly defensive with evades and parries.

2. Sapper/Engineer - Explosives expert, some digging involved but only as a means to the end of getting the explosives placed in that perfect spot. Possible use of Turrets and small grenades in actual peer to peer combat to supplement basic pistol or blunderbuss use. Makes use of knockbacks and stuns.

3. Fencer - Classic Zorro. Focusly opposite of the Pistoleer; stick to you like glue. Parries come with heavy counters.

Of course if I can get what I want as a Sapper/Engineer, I might switch my main over to being a Ginny. ;3
