What Things Would You Like To See Given There Are No Primary Healers?

Recommended Posts

The Japanese version of chess is called Shogi, I mentioned it before.  In shogi once you've captured an enemy piece you can then choose to either move an existing piece on your side or you can place a captured piece on the table to fight on your side.  Basically you sacrifice an attack move to gain support for your next move. To me this is what healing is..

Exactly.

That's why healing needs to be small, compared to typical DPS.. otherwise it's just a matter of who has more healers or a fair healers/DPS ratio.

Regarding your math example.. of course a match between two equally skilled groups will be won by whoever has more players. I don't think that's what you meant before with: "a group of six should fairly easily defeat a group of two"... what happens when the two more skilled players have to fight 4 dps and 2 fire-hose healers? They're doomed. It doesn't matter what their damage output is or how much they're skilled because the healers will remove any kind of advantage they might get during the fight anyway.

I am against stealthers also. Well, I am against anything that takes away the ability of a single player or a small group to fight outnumbered.

I don't really understand the argument that you shouldn't be able to heal damage.  If magic can do harm to someone than why shouldn't magic be able to do good to someone just as effectively.  In or out of combat.

I am sure someone explained it better before me.. healing is a reactive solution applied when a problem has already taken root to undo the mistakes.

Having an option to undo mistakes, DURING a fight (aka without earning it), dumbs down competition.

Especially if the fighting groups are uneven in number.

You talked about how one person could kill ten in Darkfall at one point if I remember correctly.  You could do that in WoW and Shadowbane too.  Just find a group of rookies and start swinging.

It was more like 1vs6 or less, and it wasn't noobs or low-skilled players because I happened to lose a 1vs6 against a well-known Darkfall prodigy.

Shadowbane and WoW... you're probably refering to someone with much better gear and higher skills in a tab-targeting environment.

It's a different scenario from Darkfall imho.

The only downside would be in areas where friendly fire comes into play, simply because it could stop recognizing group members and heal EVERYONE in the area and you might take damage for your enemies. I don't know how it would be implemented there, since I could also be wrong and it could still recognize friend/foe markers.

I didn't even consider that much. But, now that you mention it, simply making most heals "unbiased" (anyone getting blasted by healing juice gets healed, not just friendlies) would significantly boost the tactical element of healing. Want to have a giant circle AoE heal that heals a good bit? Great. Better hope your foes aren't in that circle when you cast it, though.

Give us a strong buffer and forgo the healing.  Reducing damage buffs, Movement buff, Attack Speed Buff, Leeching buff and several more could offset the need for healers.  A well played buffer could make the difference between success or failure.

I do not want any healing in game unless it is a self heal (small one) based off a discipline that everyone has access to.

What is the difference then? You can have healing with some buffs, or NO HEALING with LOTS of BUFFS..does that not work out more or less the same? Sort of like saying No Maces in the Game but we want lots and lots of Scepters ... you end up with the same thing, just calling it a different name.

There will be healing through disciplines and traits? If you have 2 knights one who is defensive specced and another who is healing specced. Who wins?

The one that plays better I hope.

But it will be a long fight. However if you have a 2v2 fight with 2 knights on each side. One side has 2 knights who specced DPS vrs a healer and defensive spec. Who wins?

I hope the answer will be the group that plays better.

Most healers like playing healers because they want to be different, if the game lets them spec enough that they can be useful and have fun then they will thrive.

we literally have no idea how combat or skills will work yet. why does this thread have 20 pages of 100% baseless speculation

First of all, it's not 20 pages of just that. Secondly, because we have two options:

1) Never talk about anything until we absolutely know -- straight from ACE -- that it's going to in the game, and even then just talk about exactly how it's designed, and only say "Yes it's awesome!" or "No, I hate it!"

2) Speculate based on what we know. Even if it's not much.

1 would kind of defeat the purpose of forums, so many of us have chosen option 2.

Also, we actually do know a decent bit about how combat and skills will work. No, we don't know an exact snapshot of how any specific thing will end up working, but we know they're not going to just go "Oh, nevermind guys! Tab-targeting's back in, and action-combat's out! 8D!"

I may not know if it's going to rain or be sunny tomorrow, but I know it's not going to dinosaur or frosting outside. The weather's going to be in a specific range of states. So, we don't "literally have no idea" how the weather's going to work tomorrow. We just don't know exactly how it's going to work tomorrow.

"Hey, what if healing skills work like this?" is at least potentially useful. You know how useful "Why are there a bunch of posts in a topic that I think are unnecessary?" is? Zero useful.

When did Dinosaur become a weather term, or a verb?

Honestly, you are the type of person that is much to competitive, has zero compassion for other people and think you are better than everyone else. You likely love to troll people on a day to day bases to get others angry and laugh about it. You make playing any online game unfun for everyone else.  -Kuroaka

LOL..It's something to do while we wait for the alpha and beta testing and then for the game to come out...
