[Obsidian] Crowfall Stealth Operations

Recommended Posts

Define "small scale" pvp. Is it with a maximum number in mind or is it more "selective based on pvp style, etc". I.E. Do you have a plan for guild expansion?

@Knossos, this is actually more difficult to answer then it should be.

Small Scale PVP to me, is one-two groups operating in concert with each other, looking for fights. I plan on holding true to this..

Obsidian is going to be arranged into "Cells" which are at most the equivalent of 2 full sized Crowfall parties. I have not seen an official word on max party size yet, but my inclination is that it will not be centered into classic MMO fare. Shadowbane had a much larger party size and thus I am expecting somewhere in the 8-10 player range. This would put our small scale PVP maximums at 2x of that or 16-20 players working together.

I do plan on having contracts from other player guilds that want to purchase our particular brand of mayhem.

While we plan on operating in 8 to 20 player Cells, nothing in our charter indicates that all of Cells might not work together in tandem to deny our enemy an easy day. If 4 of these Cells are split up around an opponents city, denying them access to the resources they require to wage war with our clients, then the better we fulfill our objectives.

The whole previous statement, however, does not preclude the eventuality that all of the Cells must come together and fight as a larger force. There will be days where our whole team may need to fight for its survival and our ability to solely fight in small groups becomes impossible. I fully expect enemies to hate greatly what will we be doing.

hey mate, are you planning on expanding this guild to EU servers aswell?

As Aries indicated, I do fully plan on allowing anyone to join the guild. Right now I'm planning on our guild presence on being wholly in one campaign. We won't be spread thin, nor will I allow this guild to get too large. I have 100 slots for members and their friends and we won't be recruiting actively beyond that. If one of those squads is a European timezone based squad, thats fine with me. There are plenty of targets to pillage after the US timezones go to bed. I know how effective that can be.

Whether you would have fun in this guild being on when the majority is usually not? Thats a question best left for yourself.

The best answer is this. If you look at Obsidians hierarchy on the website you'll see that we have a very friendly attitude to you bringing your friends on board to fight with you. In fact, if you can find a few like minded individuals from the UK and want to organize your own Cell, we'll put you in charge of it. So the long and short answer is sorta. We have a system and hierarchy in place that would support you, but no we do not plan on being in multiple servers at once.

Pardon my newbness, whats slack?

http://slack.com

Its sort of a forum / instant messaging hybrid product. It allows people to be notified when a conversation is going on. More importantly it allows people to monitor that conversation from a web browser, android or iphone product in real time.

We are utilizing this product to maximize our communication during high levels of activity in the game, even if you are away from the game.

Your idea is interesting. My group, the Stormcrows, are planning on running as a mercenary outfit in the more traditional since(a standing army). What I like is that you are a more specialized version of what we are, an interesting concept. I expect we might be seeing a bit of each other on the battlefield if two trade and/or crafting guilds hire both of us for the same campaign. We bleed while other's profit, what a life.

Best of luck to you!

I fully expect we will run into each other. Such is the life of a paid mercenary. Our specialization will not be in substituting or expanding an existing army (as it sounds yours might be). Even if a contract is accepted, we do not report to them. Our autonomy and effectiveness is best used in the rear lines preventing reinforcements from reaching the front, or carrying out hit and runs on their city while they burn yours to the ground.

If we made fighting our clients so horrific, costly and unbearable, your enemies will learn not to ever pick a fight with you again.

We are much more inclined (eager even) to accept a contract that says "Kill X" then "Guard us from death". Still, if the pay is right....

Replies from Todd (/u/Jtoddcoleman)

Q: Will there be peek and steal abilities, similar to those used by the Thief class in Shadowbane?

A (Gordon): The design team loves this mechanic/idea, but there is not a definitive plan to have it in the core module release.

A (Todd): One of my best friends is CONSTANTLY retelling me war stories about the times he would hide and corpse loot with his Aracoix in Shadowbane. Seriously, he has told me the same stories DOZENS of times, and he seems to think I've never heard it before. He will kill me if we don't put that kind of mechanic in Crowfall.

Well it seems after reading all around that Stealth will be a part of the game. So I ask you what do you guys think on this matter?

I always loved stealth mechanics, and by what Todd said, there most likely will be. Gordon didn't seem happy about it but let's hope for the best!

Also, lockpicking and all that trickery would be great to see!

Yea I was disappointed they indicated that Pickpocketing/Stealing likely wouldn't make the core release (most likely). Still, leaves room for a later Archetype release of a traditional "Thief" class.
