The Power Of Stealth

Recommended Posts

1. I once played WoW on a early beta freeshard and there was a funny bug with rogues stealth. if you just activated and deactivated it, your speed got reduced until next relog. if you did that many times in a row, you actually ran very fast forwards when pressing the backwards button. that was really funny.

2. i hope, stealth gives me the ability to get away with my crafter, if i roam around solo in the world and try to get some ressources without being captured and killed.

3. i hope, that if they are the melee-burst-class rouges are in many games, that they have huge burst but no survivability.

if they die in 15 seconds to just about anyone, i have no problem with them being able to kill not reacting non-tanks from stealth in 5 seconds.

I'm updating my #3 to be;

I hope more then one archetype has the ability to access Stealth without a discipline rune. At this point Rangers are out, so here's to hoping we get Druids ;)

I'm sort of curious how hide is going to work out for rangers. Will being forced to hold still make detection more difficult? If so, will it be additionally heightened by the hide as opposed to stealth?

My favorite stealth is in SMITE, where all characters can navigate behind you undetected because of second person viewpoint. Invisibility needs to stop being called stealth.

The validity of this info?

Since the icon for assassin is specialist

[copy paste from : http://crowfall.club/assassin]

Weapon

The class uses dual wield daggers and uses light or medium armor. This indicates that the class will not be able to stay in battle for a very long and a player will have to choose time for attacks carefully.

Abilities / Skills

The title “Assassin” and general appearance of the archetype tell us that it will be able to use some sort of stealth abilities.

It is important that all concept arts display a female with wings on the back. One of the developers confirmed that Assassin will be able to glide for some time. There is no information about this but this ability can make archetype really interesting to play. Especially if you take into account that there are no flying mounts in the game.

It is important to notice that the class is not considered as melee DPS despite on wielding daggers. This may be because of a role in a team. It looks like the role of Assassin will be disrupting and disorientating enemies.

Right now we can assume that the core role of the class is scouting and sabotaging. It is also possible that the class will be able to control enemies. If you wish to be a stealthy character with high mobility and possibility to glide Assassin is your choice.

No idea where any of that info came from. To my knowledge they haven't even begun to design the class. Sounds like someone is just making it up as they go, basing it on the standard assassin tropes throughout the mmo world.

  1. What was your favorite stealth moment (in any game)?

Dark Ages of Camelot - stealthing along the edge of the world in Midgard on a dark stormy night to get into a hostile enemy realm - to sneak into enemy camps, stir the pot and then be chased by at least 2 dozen players. Yells and announcements - "A hostile rogue is in our homebase!! Find him!!"

The excitement of invading enemy territory and places where other classes dare not venture - was certainly one of the most palpable stealthing experiences in DAOC

  2. What are you hopes for stealth and stealth-enabled archetypes in Crowfall?

Hoping that Crowfall will preserve the same kind of excitement for stealth, not just an element of surprise, but a palpable, meaningful experience - where stealth can be used not just for combat but for world interaction - getting places where others cant go without stealth. Perhaps tactical reasons on a larger scale to tip the balance of an event.

  3. What are your concerns for stealth/assassins in Crowfall?

Have not had a chance to explore the current possibilities yet - the current duelist mechanics seem to be very enticing however. The burrow ability is a unique way to present stealth. It seems like a concern here would be, again, the gank squads of a dozen Duelists roaming around... tsk... tsk.. tsk..

It happens in Big World already.

Not 12 together because 12-man groups are pretty rare anyway. More like 5-man groups.

Duelist is rather weak 1v1 and very weak as a group contributor, so a balanced 5-man  visible group can generally prevail in 5v5.

All duelist gank squads are especially good at dropping single opponents without them being able to run away.

Honestly, you are the type of person that is much to competitive, has zero compassion for other people and think you are better than everyone else. You likely love to troll people on a day to day bases to get others angry and laugh about it. You make playing any online game unfun for everyone else.  -Kuroaka

I wouldn't take any archetype as it currently sits as indicative of how it might be come launch. Almost all of the archetypes are pretty lackluster in multiple ways. There isn't any semblance of balance yet so hold off on judging anything ;)
