Other Possible Archetypes?

Recommended Posts

illusionists?/dominator ? what other archetypes would you like to see later on in the game? or by launch time?

I want to see bard as an archetype... I mean not as a sub class but to be a prime archetype

some seemed somewhat odd but you get the picture.
I think mmo's should finally allow players to join the dark side. How many mmo's have actually done that?

in WoW you could play as the horde?

City of Villains (obviously)

SW:TOR (sith/darkside)

Shadowbane (Chaos and Irekei factions, Temple arguably)

Pathfinder Online (evil alignment settlements/deities)

Warhammer (chaos, greenskins, darkelves)

list goes on... add DAoC, WOW, and any other RVR game if you consider enemy factions "dark side"

Played none of the mmo's Jihan mentions.

but were you able to join the antagonist's side in one of them?

Horde in wow just had different customs,

imo they are not really bad to the bone.

Yeah, the Forsaken totally didn't seek to poison every living thing eventually. I wish my mother-in-law was more like Sylvanas too.

Any side can be the "good guys" if you play the relativity game. Did you ever play Dungeon Keeper?

Yes, sith lords in Star Wars want to corrupt and enslave everything. So do the Chaos gods in Warhammer. We can make this list very long indeed.

But more to the point, the evil isn't in the archetypes. It's in the factions. Go ahead and fight for the Chaos and be super evil.

You're like asking why there aren't more evil cars. There's Honda, Volvo and Chrysler but why can't I drive an evil car?

The thing that stinks about most games adding races/classes later is that 9/10 times, you already have a main you play on. In this case specifically, any non launch archetypes will really stink because we are all invested in the game. So if we choose to make our character a ranger, use up all of our kickstarter rewards on that character and then Spring 2017 roles along with the "Necromancer", it will cause a lot of anger. In WoW, you can add races without too much repercussion, but when you set up a main here from what you're originally given, then they release something...bad things...

A bard would be interesting.  Can they allow us to create our own music to be played in game when casting spells?  That would be awesome!

An alchemist where all your abilities are utility buffs and debuffs involving chugging potions and throwing potions. Lots and lots of steroids that buff yourself and allies into frothing maniacs, on the other side of it these buffs could come with well deserved debuffs making for situational awareness and some sort of communication or you may find yourself accidentally getting yourself or your allies killed.

I'd love to see a Mesmer/Illusionist type archetype. One that relies on short range teleports and images of themselves to survive situations.

Although some of those promotions aren't evil in my book

the true evil side would be joining the lichking's minions for example

edit

I think in a pvp oriented game like this they can really permit players to join the pure evil side.

As for the Necromancer/Warlock above:Some of their paths might be pure evil while others are not ,but perhaps that is ok as it is a nice choice to make for the  player.

If they let people make their own music you'd get everyone running around being Dubstep Bards.

...

It would be glorious.

Anyway, I think one of the main problems with the game as it's currently presented is that there already seems to be a lot of overlap with the archetypes. Specifically, with all the melee plate wearers. Templars look exactly like Knights but I guess some of their abilities will have a more religious-y feel. Legionnaires also look exactly like knights except they're centaur knights instead of human knights. Champions look like knights again, except this time on steroids.

What I don't get is that these archetypes are apparently all champions of the various Gods, yet they look like minor variations on generic fantasy soldier dude. I mean, I guess being able to play a centaur is cool, but they could go so much further. I'd like a tank that isn't just a guy with a shield for once, and is instead a massive ogre who's toughness comes from his thick hide. Or a warlock who uses demon magic to make himself near invincible. Or some kind of engineer who made himself a suit of steampunk power armour, like a medieval Tony Stark. Or just a regular wizard who specialises in defensive magic. Maybe he's from a race of turtle people?

The same goes for the melee dps. The ranged DPS at least get a fun ice mage. Why can't melee dps get fun elemental powers too :(

If you make archetypes too specific it kinda ruins the fun in customization. I think what crowfall wants to achieve is I will give you a character, what you want it to be is up to you. i.e. confessor + vampire skills give you necromancer or something like that

How I understand archetypes is an original character model on which all promotions of the same kind are based.

The archetype being the first form.

Plus 12 archetypes for alpha is already impressive. But idk I'm not hoping for any new archetypes atm. I will go with whatever I have and see what I can do with it
