The (New) Lack Of Character Appearance Customization

Recommended Posts

So in all previous screenshots of the character creation screen, I noticed an appearance tab.  While we haven't been given much info on the amount of appearance customization,  I was happy with simply the promise that there will be.

However, now i notice a consistent removal through the means of cropping those images, and lack of that tab with all screenshots on this website and in the videos.

Just curious if that was scrapped at this point and the only customization from here on out is which Archetype you choose (and gender).

Look at the following image and notice how they do have choices in hair and faces?  They're obviously still planning on some... albeit very limited.... customization options per character.  I don't think CF players are playing CF for character customization in the appearance.  It's more how you play your character, rather than how it looks.

The answer is listed in the Characters & Advancement FAQ.

4. Can the character appearances be customized?
Yes. We will offer the ability to customize your character (hair styles, color and face) in Character Creation. Further customization can be done in-game, by collecting equipment.

The full list of FAQ's are listed here.

If they are willing to put a stretch goal for a female centaur, I'm assuming they could do the same if for some reason making multiple faces and body shapes is too time consuming and or costly. Considering the art style, really don't see the need for deep customization too far beyond what they've already said and alluded too. Not going for hyper realism or a selfie-mode, I'd hope at least. People point to Black Desert as an example, but in actual game play (not zoomed in on face), looks pretty much like any other game.

I'm hoping for more too, honestly.  Faces and hair, at least 10 options of each for every race/gender would be nice.  Body type/size is probably way too much to expect at this point.

Some guys just go asking questions without ever trying to read the FAQ or give a minute or two of their browsing time looking for the answer.

They simply post, walk away and expect answers when they get back.

I still remember, to this day, which guild had which colors in UO :)

it's not meaningless in any way. it adds a lot of recognition value.

you were talking about customization.

the presented picture up there shows dye-able clothing.

Customization is nice, but only to the point where it doesn't affect performance in mass battles. If you start adding things like different body types and even animations there will be performance hits on both servers and on the client computer.

I'll take simple, stylistic and a nice frame rate over unique looking avatars and 2 FPS any day.
