Eternal Kingdoms! Kickstarter Update 19

Recommended Posts

"In Today's update we unveil more information about the Eternal Kingdoms. We hope you have a coffee, this is a long one!"

"Kingdoms are smaller versions of the Campaign worlds – not just social lobbies. You are the Monarch of this world! You can explore, craft, build structures and even fight monsters… but a Kingdom is limited in terms of difficulty and power.

All accounts are granted a kingdom at the beginning of the game, but using it is not required (…beyond maybe a tutorial? We haven’t decided yet.)

We fully expect that some players will prefer to spend the vast majority of their time participating in the Campaign Worlds, and we intend to let them do so without maintaining a Kingdom."

Great update.  Plenty of information for the folks that were refusing to donate or threatening to remove donations based on lack of EK info.

Lots to take in, most of it good.  The only thing I'm hoping for now is a genuine effort to look into those opt-in siege type rules, or other various ideas the community has been offering for making EKs have more risk/reward associated with them.  e.g. Ren's ideas that I'm always plugging.  (Sorry, I just thought they were a step in the right direction).

Interesting stuff. Players can create the agreed upon "capital cities" now :) One thing I'd like to confirm. I'd like to know the limits/details on the EK naming policy.

" How are Kingdoms laid out, and how big are they? Is it like a housing instance?

The map of every Kingdom is divided into a square grid. Each square in the grid is called a “cell.”

Kingdoms begin as a 3 cells by 3 cells square. We’re still building this system, so the cell sizing will probably change a bit… but in the current prototype, this equates to roughly half a mile square of virtual territory.

The Kingdom can grow to be many, many times larger than this starting size. "

I didn't really understand if it's instanced or not...

Each kingdom is a separate shard, yes. You can't walk over a hill in to the next kingdom in the same way you can't walk from one campaign in to another.

Think of an Ek as a private server that you can upgrade with resources you bring back from winning campaigns, or trade for with other people. Your personal kingdom should be good out of the box to slot buildings for whatever trainers/relics you find useful, but if you wanted to manage a larger system for a whole guild with lots of different buffs, structures, etc. you'd want to upgrade that, or just rent out space from someone who spends a lot more time taking care of their EK

I really liked this update a LOT. Like Raeshlavik said, it really shows how integral EK's are going to be in the game.

I for one cannot wait to see the major trading hubs that people make spring up.

Because everyone gets their own Eternal Kingdom, I would venture to call it instanced.

Great Info and really adds some depth to EK.

Set your kingdom to open and also make it open PVP. Great place to hang out and kill friends...err enemies :D

Awesome update.

Best part I thought was you don't lose your building and thralls and stuff if you change (or get kicked out of an EK) to a different EK. Makes it so you don't have to start all over if the so called market place Hub EK you joined at launch flops so you can then join a better one.

Also like how deep the fealty tree can go all the way from monarch to tenant. Really bodes well for Guild use as well in that regard, Can offer larger lots and parcels of land to members based on rank and contribution.

and yeah Im currently at the Gold lvl and this update makes me consider upgrading to Amber to get some of those tax free parcels.

If caravans are supposed to go from campaign to the EK, how are we going to ambush them if the EK is private?

Caravans do not leave the EK, what goes to the EK if from your embargo

Maybe it not about the happy ending. Maybe it's about the story.
