Was Ace Caught Off Guard By Ks Success?

Recommended Posts

If I'm not mistaking, someone here said reddit /r/gaming lets you discuss kickstarters when they're at 48 hours. AMA inc?

Yea that was me, and it's /r/games. :)

Walton said "good to know!" on Kickstarter some hours ago, so it's possible we're going to have an AMA tomorrow.

Anyone going into Kickstarter with the mindset of "Hey, we will do $x EASY"

Is either A)Pebble or B ) Arrogant.

You end up taking a leap of faith when presenting your ideas to the public and you hope that people feel the same as you do and see value in the project you're pitching.

We grew as a community over the last 12 weeks and hoped with all our hearts that what we did pre-launch was enough to ensure the 800k goal. It was!

But fear not! We of course had a success plan written out and we're currently executing on that. Everything is prepped and ready to go to announce new goals if/when we achieve the 1.4 goal.

It looks like it won't be long...  :D

Previously Gordon mentioned that we would have new updated stretch goals as we approach 75% of the current stretch goal.  Why did this change?

EDIT: imho, I would think new stretch goals would encourage more donations toward the end of the KS campaign.

You can get the same rewards backing here: http://crowfall.com/#/payment

And pledges there will go towards EU servers and support.

Except amber on there costs like 288 dollars after taxes added in...

about Obsidian's reaction to the POE Kickstarter probably describes exactly what ArtCraft is feeling right now.

Honestly one of the things that made me agree with the original poster is the fact that the information stream of game specifics has been so ... filtered? Its one thing to announce stretch goals, but hell we don't even know what fricking promotion classes there are! What can an assassin turn into? The only specifics we know are the three (six total if you count the image + text) that were leaked in the one Kickstarter update.

Am I missing something? How can you expect players to envision themselves in your game when they don't even know what to envision themself as?

No one bought into Shadowbane thinking "I'm gonna play a "Rogue, Warrior, Healer or Mage".  No they thought about the end game promotion class they were eventually going to play.

Part of my frustration, despite setting aside $250 for the KS, is the lack of basic details in this game. Wildstar did something very similar, only releasing its final classes and races far after its world debut. By that time I'd forgotten about the game.

How many more players could you have lured if you just told us about what we are going to be able to play? I wonder.

Shadowbane came out in a different era. I learned about the game primarily through video game magazines, which were still the main news source when it was being made. Learning about all the races and classes and what was best, or worst was a slower process in that time. In this game, we get the alpha and beta to figure out every single thing. All that information is going to be collected onto wiki. There'll be fanmade web tools for character building, and looking at maps, and items. By the time goes live and more casual players start coming on board they will have a huge wealth of information just waiting to be discovered. If, by chance they are the type of person that starts a strategy-based MMORPG without an ounce of research, they're not going to last a week.

Ace has a long term (1+ years) plan, which they need to spread out the information drops during that time.  So, it's only natural that we don't see everything dropped during KS.  They've provided a considerable amount of information about the game and the gameplay for players to determine if this is the game for them and just how much $ are they willing to help support the development efforts.

Kind of what I thought.

Actually we were not sure we'd get enough support to meet our initial goal. We certainly hoped we would, and had done as much as we knew how to do to gather a community ahead of time. We've already done better than our best-case plans. The kudos really go to the backers though, not us, we just wanted to make something different and cool and hoped enough people would get enthused by this vision.

well if you look at the original Goal of 800k then they probably assumed that it would be more then that obviously, BUT prob figured they would hit like 1.2 maybe 1.3 mill with ~10k backers or so. But its a good thing it blew up so well.
