Botting/cheating/hackers

Recommended Posts

I am wondering what measures will be taken against botting/Cheating/hacking.

I have played games like Tibia that are now over run by botters with an estimated 80% of accounts online being botters. Tibia was an amazing game back when I started in 2002 but has been ruined by botters as they now provide nearly all of the "Premium time" sold on the game as CIPSOFT has done nothing to prevent it (in fact they took several measures to make botting easier such as removing GM's that would roam the worlds and bann them) What will we see in Crowfall? Will we have GM's roaming around to remove cheaters? Will there be a no tolerance policy regarding bots? imagine if there were to be accounts that would bot every day gathering resources. Yes some might be ganked but no player would ever be able to match their output. Will there be a report function?

Other games that have been ruined by external programs are games like Counter Strike Global offensive with Wallhacks in atleast  one out of every few games. What will Crowfalls stance be against external programs that can give an unfair advantage to some players?

And finally let us say a player got hacked and the hacker ruins his EK, trades off all his items and valuables and ruins kills off all his characters in the Campaigns, so he has nothing when and if he returns. Will he be able to retain the things lost? and will there be a feature to ensure that the player will be able to get his account back?

We all hate bots, we all hate cheaters, and absolutely hate hackers. Obviously we kick them, but without running the game, their approach in shunning these players is still unknown. I also wish to know how this could be achieved but I'd rather see the game made first.

It depends on how much ACE choose to have client side.

The client side stuff, is the things you can hack or modify.

Hackers/glitchers could potentially be very annoying in Full Loot rulesets, where you save up resources and gear only to have it taken by a glitcher you didnt even see.

A couple of active GM's and a report function should help mitigate alot of those types of players.

Shadowbane is the perfect example of how not to handle it.

We macro'd, we botted, we multibox'ed, we duped.

And then there were the chinese and koreans, that used every exploit available, even during PvP.

Nothing was ever done, except for maybe the first 3 or 4 months.

The easiest way to keep people off your account is an "account authorization key" and a really complex password.

Hackers and botters are bound to happen.. not much you can really do except hope the community pulls together and report them and hopefully perma band them.

Botting doesn't look like its going to do much in this game at this point. Skills are passively trained and I imagine using a bot to farm resources is just going to result in your character being killed repeatedly.

From what we are told the worlds will be massive..  Therefor a good percentage of bots will probably haul a load or two "home" before being ganked

well since the game will be b2p I think it will reduce the overall amount of people which will risk their accounts.

well and the general system will result in bots not being that effective.

The only flaws which could happen to focus more on the client side and bad management. But I guess if they ultimately go for the ArcheAge way I don't think they will survive that long. And I don't think they go for that way.

unless the person is using a speed hack, you should be able to kill them, Foe or Friendly attack (hehe FoF missiles were awesome in Eve Online).

Its remember me this city defence against CN on damnation where they was spawning building on us  !

At the end, macroer/booter was welcome because they was a great source of easy money to active player.

Dupe, its was a problem when only few people know how to do, after when every guild was having infinite cash and ressource its was back to the best in pvp rule.

Only the PVP bug was a real pain in ass during the whole existence of the game, specialy when a new one was coming as they could break a well though strategy who ignored the opportunity bring by those bugs. And since city was taking months (or weeks with infinite gold)  to be fully build, surprise your enemy one time against the right city with a new exploit could be engough for change the server balance.

As to Botting- They talked about this in one of the podcasts and they basically said that the system doesnt really reward botting. This is because there is no classical quest system. Having a bot farm mobs will yield very little that is useful to players since the important resources come from "Points of Interest" that generate resources over time and need to be transported back to a safehouse/base of sorts. The best thing a Bot could do is escort resources from point A-B but will most likely be picked off by other players assuming the bot won't really fight back, again.. rendering the bot useless.

As for Hackers/Cheaters thats a whole different conversation and we'll leave that to the IT devs

In other games I have seen movement speed hacks and even instant warping to another side of a zone.  While in a PvE environment this would not directly effect me, in a PvP game like Crowfall that would be devastating.  Imagine shooting an arrow at someone and never being able to hit them because they automatically sidestep.  I hope the Devs have someway to mitigate this.

This isn't something to worry about at this time. This should start being addressed around mid beta.

The server has the final word on what happens to the character. Most hacks are client done where the server can't validate or fully trust the client.

not unless they win a campaign....Most botter's are not interested in playing the game, only exploiting it.
