Free To Play To A Point

Recommended Posts

I think it would be incredibly beneficial to the game to offer it free of the box cost with the restriction of being limited to a single toon that can be tenants of other kingdoms, also no or diminished passive training.  I say this because no one will really desire being a tenant.  This allows people to try the game and guys this game is going to be AMAZING.  This will increase the number of tenants in the game, offer a free less than desirable oppurtunity to try the game and be apart of what its like. Its good for me and you because more players will only increase the "gene pool" to offer the most realism.   Honestly its the best for Artcraft because it will increase overall players and in turn more subscriptions.  This $ amount vastly outweighs the possible loss to people that would have bought the game and do not after trying it if my conjecture here is not mistaken.

There is a suggestion forum here.

In response to your suggestion, I do not think it is a good idea.  Allowing players access to the game for free creates way worse problems than the ones it solves (Botters vs Accessibility).

So you get the whole game forever for only one character and the only other downsides are reduced skills and you have to be in someone elses EK? Then you have to hope they buy the box or maintain a monthly subscription for at least 4 months just to break even. I hear the potential profit going down the tubes

With all the streaming and no NDA i think people should have a better idea than most mmorpgs whether they want to play or not

They have diminishing gains of some sort like diminished or no passive training, which I understand to be a large part of your levels.  What I intended regardless was some kind of level cap,  They dont get the full game is the intention by whatever means to force them desire to buy the full box game, the idea is to make it a "demo" that allows for some interaction in the game.

I think there will be plenty of tenants, but they will mostly be devoted EKers. Think about it, the EKers will need to maximize their land holdings, and leasing a plot will probalby be less expensive than buying a new one in the short term. Many, like the PvP crowd from SB for instance, will probably not want to do anything but kill people. So rather than managing their own plots they will just lease them out to EKers for some extra income. Those EKers in turn will use the resources, bonuses, products, whatever, to make their own kingdoms better, and provide services that attract players and guilds.

EKers will be playing a totally different game than other players. They will probably be competing to get pieces of territory from new players/EK inactive players that they can build on.

Tenants wont be a problem.

As an old-skool SB Roleplay type o' person, I'll probably RP in EKs and dive in for some bloodshed during campaigns. We'll see.

One thing I'm curious about is how much downtime you'll have in a Campaign World. Can you build or find a citadel that can't easily be infiltrated by enemy players? Can you chill out with a relative amount of safety behind some thick walls? Will you have a choice of activity? Guard duty? Escort duty? Patrol duty?

I think it's kind of pointless, since the game is B2P. People can just watch streams and decide if it is the game for them and buy it based on that. F2P causes too much problems and also limiting stuff for the f2p players will cause negative feedback to the game.

free to play is ok ... no no no . sorry but every game i've loved has gone f2p and tons of bad poorly made socks ruined most of them.

i like the idea of.

60$ one time fee. or 15$/month any length you like ( the per month charge however grants a V.I.P status)

with a crapload of amazing micro buyable costume items ( and other non game breaking items ) with a decent price range of 2$-5$ for v.i.p statuses . and non v.i.p 2$-10$ or what not ( keeping in mind the many micro buys = more people wanting to buy versus heavily priced items ) all of which help cover the expensive costs of running such a game ( lets face it , it's not cheap at all i'd say it would cost what close to $12 million by the time they are done this game and ready to roll it out. which covers costs of:

veteran game designers, programmers, artists, musicians, tech support , servers, heat, electricity, water, and other plumbing, among the minor costs ( but still costly over the length of 12+ months until game ready to go)

hell even start getting people into the game offer some discounted prices for a while (something decently affordable  15-30$, to get people into the game for at least the first 2-3 months? then go back to normal pricing. who knows i am sure they will figure it out. but this game def needs to be B2P/P2P(buy to play , pay to play[per month])

Perhaps the way Eve did it.

Though I think this would open the flood gates for players not dedicated to the game enough to help enhance the experience.

You would have hords and hords of very weak, bored and most likely trolling players running rampant.

A solid quote, I'd say.
