Water Should Be Affected By Players Actions

Recommended Posts

This is a pretty simple suggestion but is fairly complex to create.

Water should move around and when we alter terrain the water should move appropriately.

This requires water to take up space. It also requires water to have certain physics.

The best example I can give is if someone tries to dig underground to a castle but they hit the moat then the water in the moat should flow into the tunnel and water level in the moat should decrease.

Another example is if someone wants to make a lake by building a dam.

The final example is what we see in skyrim except more so. Rapids should tug and pull the player; as should tides in the ocean.

And if I put a yellow liquid in the water, the water should turn yellow.

I really hope we can play around with water to manipulate it! Knocking people off bridges over a "hand dug" moat could be great fun! No idea about the "physics of water" in game, but check out some amazing work by Miguel Cepero and the crew over at  http://procworld.blogspot.com/    Enjoy!

Well minecraft has this mechanic or so to speak not with the player tugging but if you dig under a river/lake the water will go in your tunnel. Would be awesome and also create more things to do just to have fun, true sandbox expirience.

Thanks for the links! Really exciting to see all what can be done with Voxel Farm.

I would also love to break apart huge water dam like the trees do in LotR. It's Crowfall and Voxel Farm so our dreams could come true! :P

Well, water does have strategic value already. build by the water and attackers can't do all that much siege wise to it. Until winter that is when all the rivers freeze solid and are now ground. Making what was once a hinderance, a help.

Water is so hard to do well.  I'd rather see them ignore water for awhile.  Make these hunger-worlds barren wastelands, and then long after they have the game working, they can have some big event that restores some life to the worlds and coincidentally add water physics in a major update ;)

Yeah, EQ: Landmark didn't have water physics at launch and was patched it in after several months, and SOE has(had) much deeper pockets.  I wonder what will become of that game and its tech now that SOE (Daybreak) got bought out.

Yeah. This seems like a lot of work with a relatively minor payout for the base module. I'm sort of hoping we'll see a water-based expansions (I want ships ala ArcheAge!), which would be the perfect time to add something like this in.
