Things that make me happy:

1. Stag race.

2. Warmth.

3. Hunger.

4. Dash.

5. Some of the female characters aren't sexualized.

6. The concept art of the female characters looks nice in terms of color/dynamism and differentiation in appearance. These characters are magnetic.

Things I'm not happy about:

1. Race/gender lock? Doubt it, but here's my voice of disapproval if it is.

2. Static classes? Hope not.

3. The 3D model looks basic and uninteresting, even chunky; the art style is not particularly dynamic. I much prefer the stylized models of EQN/Landmark, Camelot Unchained, Wildstar, GW2, or Neverwinter to this stylization. It's just very flat and kind of... like, boring, overly simple, lacking texture, and low poly. If this game is voxel-based then I'll be less critical about the graphics.

4. Armor sets also all look mundane and bland, too realistic, which is sad for how extremely stylized the art style is otherwise. And no I'm not asking for WoW shoulder mountains either, just a bit more detail and nuanced change in silhouette/color/hue.

5. Male concept art is all very samey; color palettes very close, dark and gray, and they have similar armor styles. Could use some more unique additions, some brighter or more colorful ones, other than stag man.

6. Power cooldown? Does this signal global cooldowns, which in turn makes hotbar style combat very likely?

Overall I was not that impressed, but this is just my opinion. The concept art doesn't really matter to me except that it may reflect on the in-game models. As long as there is a dye system, the dull samey color palettes don't bother me either. I hope the next release of info/pics is more compelling and helps solidify these speculations either way.

only if the porn dolls can have southern-style, 80s mall hair, just to complete the set.

They'd be way too hot. You would organize a picketing.

I like it because id sacrifice graphic "realism" for siege/pvp computer performance any day of the week. Dont care about ultra-realistic graphics, make it smooth with 100v100 on the screen with stick figures.

Also liking all the character customization just in this glimpse.. building spec characters and groups was a major upside of Shadowbane.

Teen Gamer is excited about the hunger and warmth factors. I showed him the pic and his eyebrows arched. He grew a faint smile and said, "Survival in an MMO, I like that idea." Then he wandered away. All in all, I think that's a good sign that he will bring his horde to play. Woe be unto us all.

I'm wondering how much we will be able to change the LOOK of our character.  As I and others have said before, I don't want to run around with thousands or even hundreds of characters that look just like me.

I'm with you on this one.  I want to be able to pick myself out of the crowd.  Not be one of many clones.   Give me hairstyle and clothing choices or give me death!!! LOL

JToddColeman,

Thank you for this first look at the Character Creation Screenshot, can we get an animated gif of this to see the swirly effects in motion? :)  Or have the model do a little turn on the catwalk? on the cat walk? do a little turn on the catwalk?

I love the smooth slick art style that you're going with.  This is very reminiscent of Torchlight 2.  Great use of saturation and richness.  A humble bow to your art department.

I for one am so so sick of ammie and porn doll and stud muffins. It shall be interesting to see what they go with. I think that if they are going out to break out of the mold, then they are going to change char looks as well and not half *****. Cause then what's the point? Awesome game, great game play with same old stud's, porns, ammies (and what not).

People who are concerned that it is a moba either don't know what mobas are or aren't very up-to-date on the game.  MOBAs take place in instances (usually 5v5) and are non persistent.

Now what they CAN be concerned with is the fact that mainstream gaming is shifting towards faster-paced moba and action combat type play... you will probably see action combat as most companies are going this route now, and you will probably see moba elements like much more small and focused kits (something like an 8 ability hotbar)....

That being said, there is nothing that says it couldn't be a MOBA style character. In other words, you pick Darius, you can change his appearance and stats but are locked in to spells/abilities, like in a MOBA. That is what would scare me. Also, the art style is very similar to current MOBAs.

A few comments I want to quickly make. Why is everyone focusing on 1 of 2 issues? Overly "sexualization" and how that is apparently a huge deal in concept in a pre-alpha game...and it looking like a MOBA. Neither I see as a problem truthfully. It is a confirmed MMORPG, so there is no "MOBA" attributes. As far as customization, again, HIGHLY doubt it will be an issue. Again, it's an MMO, if there was 0 customization and we all look the same, ya I would allow everyone to be mad but it just looks like a class selection screen, then you go into details (hair, race, etc.). If we truly were this limited, Artcraft might have created business suicide (which from succesful past MMO creators, would be extremely unlikely). I highly doubt the character customization will delve too off course from the traditional World of Warcraft, Archage, Guild Wars, what have you style of customization: Pick a class, pick a race, pick your features, obtain custom gear in the game itself. As for over "sexualization", give me a break. The concept is rather lenient of what it could be and as JTC said, "they could all wear full chain", and how would the ladies like dragging around massive hunks of armor (that wouldn't render your movement points I bet). The point of an MMO is to be whatever you want to be, truthfully MMOs are also exaggerations of humans, sure women typically get bigger breasts that are more showy, but men also get overly buff and muscular, in some MMOs can just run around in boxers! The only thing that has me a little fearful in the entire image is the raven. The raven pendent can mean several things but because we have seen the banners, it might mean factions, which I feel can make or break an MMO. In WoW with two factions and around 8 races in each, that is fine, in ESO where there are 3 and 3 races in each...different story. I don't feel faction allegiance should be mandated by race because it is a turn off from working with friends. "Sorry you ALL need to be elves in order to work together" "You NEED to help your elf queen even if you want to be a rogue", it's a pain. I like the open endedness of the point system (similar to D&D) and hopefully they will physically alter your character by changing sizes. AKA, you put more into strength, you get bigger muscles, you put more into movement, you become skinnier and more agile.

There are tons of mmorpgs that have you locked into certain spells and abilities based on your class/profession/discipline/whatevertheywannacallit...

Archetype: "a very typical example of a certain person or thing."

Starting point for a character with customization being the next screen?

We will see...
