What are some promotions and abilites that would be cool for the Legionaire?

Recommended Posts

Charging is a must have !

An ability to kick a guy behind you would also be awesome.

As for promotion class, I could very well imagine an Archer Centaur based on kitting (since they're faster).

A spear-specialist would be great too.

I think they should be more vulnerable to attacks like hamstring or a leg sweep or aoes with a ground theme like earthquake. Horses don't have very sturdy legs.

Few quick thoughts

1.  I think that one of the Legionaire roles should be based off a classic European knight:  Heavily armored cavalry, armed with a lance, that smashes enemry formations.  (It would be interesting to know whether the traditional counter - a pike square - would also be possible)

2.  It woud make sense to also incorporate a light cavalry equivalent, primarily armed with bows

3.  The last option looks to be a support role:  A standard bearer or some such

As for special abilities...  It would be interesting if one of them invovled jumping.  I'd love to see a legionaire take a running jump over a shield wall and attack the casters in the rear.

Agreeing with the light cavalry/heavy cavalry.

One promotion that increases mobility and focuses on throwing weapons, with lances as backup. Throwing spears would also fit with the theme considering of how fond the early romans were of their pila. Make them shorter ranged, somewhere half between "real" archery and melee weapons with a bonus against heavy armor or armor piercing effects.

The second one would be heavy cavalry that focuses on melee with polearm type weapons or (limited) sword and board.

Constant optimism will not solve your problems,

but it will annoy enough people to be worth the effort.

I would like to see shield abilities as well as hand/foot powers:

  1. Shield Bash (damage and stun)
  2. Shield Slice (damage)
  3. Kick (damage and knock back) (Centaur would have front and back)
  4. Throw (damage and throw back)
  5. Trample (damage and Stun) (Centaur only)
  6. Charge (damage and knock back and stun)(shield only)

What I would like to see, as a Centaur Legionnare, would be some form of Cataphract Charge which could/ would disrupt enemy formations. Some real Heavy Cav stuff.

What could also be iconic and fitting for a Centaur Archer would be a Parthian Shot. A specific archery ambush technique, employed while feigning a retreat and shooting to the rear. With no saddles, this should be a given.

Like the earlier submitted ideas, also! Good ideas and good discussion!

Legionnares should be fun to play and hopefully, will have a good tactical toolbox to help effect not just things operational but aid and assist Legionnares in making their contribution to the most important part of any fight, the strategic win.

I like these ideas.  The one thing that I primarily hope for is a heavy cavalry promotion.  I'd rather not see lances ala medieval knights.  They should be well equipped Roman style cavalry with a devastating charge.   So, my wish list:  heavy cavalry, light ranged cavalry and a herald/military musician of some type.

Archery. I know the knight already has this, but I want to be a mounted archer, god dammit. The horse is literally built into the rider, a step up from the Mongolians, who were only figuratively built into their horses. Honestly, if you think that a centaur wouldn't make a good archer, you don't know what you're talking about.

Not a bad idea honestly but they're already doing an Elk Archer archetype called Stalker.

"My chosen weapons are axe, lance, bow and blade."

I don't think anyone else pointed this out, while you guys are discussing his weapons. Its on his Character sheet. Unfortunately, the other Archetypes didn't have anything like that :/

He's already using polearms, including pole-maces.  It is all subject to change.  I just hope they don't turn him into a gelding (supper support and nothing else).

Pole arms are lances. And a pole mace isn't a significant jump to that. I mean, if they end up getting shields, great, I'd like that. But they already said that while sure, most things are subject to change, it might not be the significant of a change. Maybe shields, maybe not, but I'm not holding my breath.

I hope hes not a super support, also.

Legionnaire Promotion Classes (according to Regulus):

1.  The Sagittarius

"Lead through superior tactics!"

The Sagittarius is a ranged Promotion Class for the Legionnaire.  His primary weapon is the bow.  He has unique combination of physical ranged attacks, support skills and mobility that makes him very desirable in a group of ranged archetypes  and a dangerous solo-er  due to exceptional kiting ability.  The Sagittarius may have lower damage than other ranged archetypes, but makes up for it with his utility and mobility.

2.  The Cornicen

"Lead through inspiration!"

The Cornicen is a Promotion Class that doubles down on the support nature of the Legionnaire.  He retains most of his base abilities, but also incorporates new powerful AOE buffs and debuffs through the sounding of orders, ballads, dirges and salutes on his curved horn--the cornu.  He is also armed with a single handed weapon.  The Cornicen shines in a group of melee based characters and brings the most support of any of the Legionnaire Promotion Classes.

3.  The Centurion

"Lead by example!"

The Centurion is a Promotion Class that emphasizes the physical power and warlike nature of the centaur people.   He uses the lance and shield.  While keeping his Legionnaire base, the Centurion focuses on improved  melee damage and survivability.  The Centurion approximates heavy cavalry as he fearlessly charges the enemy.

  1. Centurion - Enhances the leadership support role.

Juggernaut (Cataphract) - Lancer specializing in bowling-over enemy formations and chasing-down stragglers.

Horse Archer (Bowyar) - Specializes in kiting at range, escapes and revealing stealthy units.

I think the K-Mart of MMO's already exists!  And it ain't us!   :)

I would like a Charge that allows you to grab a friend or foe and carry them an X amount of distance based on their mass (carry guinnicean for half the map?)
