Banks: Localized or global

Yeah, local banks is pretty much a given, otherwise no caravans or merchandise movement. Destructable and lootable, that can be discussed. I honestly have no opinion at this point, need to wait on more info about siege and all that.

Local yes, destructible and lootable only during the times the city is siegeable, otherwise it would just be way too exhausting to defend.

Definitely should have to take the place over to loot the bank. Banks should definitely be local.

 

What people aren't thinking about with this is that you will have plenty of advanced warning before your bank is at risk. You know when a battle is likely to happen, and that allows you to move your goods.

 

Similarly, the guy that raids your bank needs a place to store that loot, more often than not meaning that it remains, mostly, right where it is where you can re-take it, or intercept it if he decides to ship it to a safer position.

Local, destructable, lootable, completely. Having your bank wiped out in a campaign would be a major setback, but not a deathblow anyway and leads to just the kind of scenarios they are looking to create. Your group is now desperate and dangerous. If it's late enough in the game, You probably need to knock over someone else's bank or kneel to someone that will supply you. They should do nothing to soften this blow.

That is completely fair, and I should have mentioned it :)

Question is will there be towns when the camp world is created with a bank (indestructible ) that anyone can use.  If this isn't an option, then you will only see large guilds build cities or whatever requirement is needed to have a bank. Any small guilds or group of people will just get steamrolled just for their bank items.  Those peeps will leave the campaign and you will have nothing then X guild vs Y guild for most campaigns.. If people don't have a safe reserve to pull from then you will have a bunch of naked people running around or just leaving the campaign totally.

I was assuming there would be neutral banks but perhaps not. I don't think it would hurt if there were a few of these. Just space them out enough to where you don't run into them around every corner. Having to find a bank should be part of the risk.

This. A full loot clan bank would absolutely destroy any competition after a single defeat. Your bob scenario would take over real fast.

If by destroying the bank you expose items inside to anyone I might be okay with it. This way now you have to MOVE the items elsewhere.

Also, yea, some undestructable banks in neutral cities with limited slots could be useful.

At least you ain't losing everything but you have to go there everytime to take items.

Why are people putting so much into their banks? Do you really expect that players are going to have lots of excess resources lying around waiting to be used? Use them or put them into embargo. If you want to horde resources for later in the campaign, go for it, but be prepared to protect it.

People have always had mountains of extra gear in any full loot game.

If the only players who have mountains of extra gear are the good players, then they should have no problem defending their cache.

A global purse is the saddest thing that can happen to an economy.  Teleportation of goods is the next saddest.

 

Anything less than "pure local" will transform this game into a terror, the likes of which you can't fathom.  Actually you can, because that's every other game you've played.

This is a good question and banks might just be an archaic remnant of the games we are used to. It would be entirely possible for people to actually use stuff and not hoard it but that would be a new concept to get used to.
