Hello there!

I can't remember how I found Crowfall but I remember thinking "this is what I wanted Shadowbane to have, a win scenario".  Then I started reading more info on Crowfall and started thinking this had to be a group of devs that played Shadowbane.  Then I watched a youtube video comparing Crowfall to another game and the guy mentioned that Crowfall is developed by a former Shadowbane developer!  Awesome!!  Everything I've read so far sounds great, maybe a little too complicated to take it all in at once but very interesting.  So I figured what the hey, sign up!

Anyway, I'm an old fart.  One of the original 100 beta testers for Shadowbane, same name.  I've played a number of games since then and in the past few years have moved away from these types of games.  Last game in the same genre (I guess) would be Guild Wars 2.  I have two kids now and my oldest has always kept an interest in the desperate attempts to keep Shadowbane available.  As a first impression, (just from watching pvp clips) there are only two issues I've seen.

1.  "Cartoony" avatars.

2.  Why have walls if you can just throw a hammer and smash a hole in them, or tunnel under them?  Which is cool btw.

Again though, this is all first impression.  I haven't even played yet.  VERY much interested in this game!

Hello and welcome

Hello!

I've been looking for an MMO that could replace my long time crutch of EVE Online ;) Been searching for years, and now Crowfall has come along :) Very excited from the Discord chats and forums so far.

I originally played some SWG years ago, then a little bit of SWTOR, but haven't been much into the MMO scene since then. I backed this game about a year ago based on the potential that I saw, but never really took a dive into to explore. I am just now reading up and learning about the more detailed game mechanics. Looking forward to release, whenever that may be.

Hey!

I'm sick of gameplay that isn't dynamic, I drifted away from mmos to pvp, like moba and strategy shooter simply because pvp games aren't nearly as scripted/braindead as mmos usually. Not even the high quality mmos have as interactive a scenario, they just have nicer visuals/more finesse in how they represent story/ui. There's no proper sense of "conflict change and influence on the world". They can be nice to experience once or twice, after that it's like you've "exhausted" the gameplay....

I however love feeling like I have a presence in a gaming community and hanging out with people/doing things together in a longer lasting way than for the duration of a match; so I do like the idea of a game that isn't just arena style pvp fighting. For that reason I'm fairly excited for this game.

I like how we have different races from the usual. I had some questions regarding the ig chat and crafting: Would factions have a worldwide faction chat? Are there guild chats? Can normal chat be seen by enemies? Can you talk to enemies? On a campaign where the pvp is between gods, would each God have a chat? You can whisper people as usual? Do we have a team chat?

When it comes to crafting, there's so many options for crafting that seem meaningful, picking fighting seems almost like you're giving up having economic influence. I'm majorly unclear as to the specifics of it however. From what I could notice everyone starts out with a class, whether you specialize in combat, crafting or exploration. But what is exploration? Is that another term for "economic prowess specialty that is less like crafting and more tied to your being around various places"? If I pick crafting or exploration, how much weaker would I be compared to a combat specialist? Is it something like a 30-50% difference in power? Is it smaller/bigger? Do I stand no fighting chance at all because I'd need to be wearing specific gear when crafting? I acknowledge they wouldn't be duelists but I'm wondering whether crafters/explorers have fighting input in group fights or not at all.

If I want to explore/roam map and participate in skirmishes I encounter while looking for/using some types of resources I come across is that exploration section? I'm not aiming to be a soloist in particular however, I'd probably want to roam in duo or small groups. What does it mean to be a combat specialist? If you come across a resource you can make use of it or do you let your group know and you guard someone coming over to take it? I saw exploration section has tracking, animal husbandry, vessels, excavation and harvesting, which I like the idea of, but do you specialize in a single one of those if you want to be effective? What about two? Would you be able to learn two at a time effectively or?

Is exploration specialty "the resource user that doesn't require armed guard to do their job but has less economic power for it"? I was interested in exploration because I like the idea of managing some resource but I don't want my movement to be predetermined by someone else having to scout for an opportunity in my stead and guard me for extended periods of time, neither do I want to be in town trading all the time to finish my craft/sell. I think I read Harvesting and Excavation make you vulnerable, but what about animal husbandry and vessels?

Also, I read people complaining you just hold F when gathering, the devs may already have a plan regarding that, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to reference some of the interactive gathering type mechanics I've seen in games. I'm not allowed to post a link but in Aura kingdom when you fish you're asked if you want to auto fish(during which you can talk) or manual fish, triggering manual fishing means a bar appears, where the furthest right part is "fish escape", and furthest left is "fishing line breaks", with middle being "fish caught". The fish pulls the line to the right(escape) constantly, in various spurts of strength or lack thereof, and you pull it left(line break) by holding click. And so you need to be careful constantly not to pull too much or too little and keep the line in the middle until the fish's strength is depleted and then it's caught. It was the funnest gathering experience I had in games. On youtube there are various examples of auto fishing rather than manual fishing, even in the guides, but if you search "aura kingdom fish king crystal lobster" you will get a proper example. It is a boss fish, which can't be auto fished successfully as far as I know. In FFXIV there's various minigames, but the ones whose mechanics could be relevant for gathering are in video "Gold Saucer Mini-Game Guide: Farming MGP with Out on a Limb and The Finer Miner". Obviously, I'm not saying exact same thing should be here, but I figured it might give some ideas.

I also played SWG and SWTOR, hard not too when you crave a decent Star Wars MMO/Game.  Still waiting for it.  Welcome back! I've been distant as well to the game/forums due to work, life, etc... However, I'm pleasantly surprised to see how much has changed.  Can't wait for the games release!

Hi everyone :] I just bought the early access. I'm a huge MMO fan and my resub to WoW is getting boring lately. I've played MMORPGs since I was very young. When I was like 9? years old or something I played Lineage and Ultima, I got Lineage 2 when it released. I spent a considerable amount of time, many years in those games. I also played LOTRO for a couple years. I've tried Age of Conan, EVE, Aion, Tera, etc. I really hope this vision comes to fruition. I look forward to playing it and I watch most every video the devs release.

Hello everyone.

I'm an old gamer, and i have tried almost everything available in the world of mmos. Many things were told already here about the lack of dynamism on the genre, and i absolutely agree with all. I have great espectations on Crowfall, that i think it will be the first of a new kind of mmo, hybrid of strategy game and mmorpg. I await the release and betas later this year, probably i will buy a backer pack once there is something "quasi-playable". In the meanwhile, i wish to help this project grows, testing and giving feedback.

Nice to meet you all.

Hello everybody! Want to introduce myself. Hello! I am (Antony Rhetoric, CyberSam most common current names.) a commoner around the subject of video games, as it's my favorite past time. I Spend more than 20 hours a week playing. I also have been a committed player in other MMOs, such as FF11, FF14, Tera and Archeage (Alpha).

I typical like to first learn the ropes, in large games like this. I find I like to learn how to play from others, it helps manage the amount of content. I also like to start  or join a community, to take advantage of what each MMO has to offer. I am excited to play some Crowfall in the future with you, to learn how things work, and how to best address a common goal. I have seen a few streams about the characters and scenery. I've got a basic idea, of what I am to expect from the game and am hoping, you guys will help fill in the gaps. I must say I like the creativity so far, and am excited get into the game as deeply as it goes.

I also like to do some content creation, though I am currently limited to ZBrush. I have done a few character designs and am currently working on environmental scenery. Maybe I can help keep creative idea flowing. Always good to find creative inspiration, in a community like this, with the same subject on the table (or at least the direction).

Other than that, I am totally excited to play with you guys. As I apparently won a early access package, while I was watching the Twitch Stream today. The Hype is unreal, I mean what are the chances. :D I hope we can play some together, in the near future. See you out there!
