Thrall Overseer Skill and Soul Gems (suggestions)

Thrall Overseer skill (TO) -  the skill required to wrangle unbound thralls and slot them into soul gems, crafted items and structures.

 

One of the main reasons the gods say they have selected our toons to be their avatars in CF is to rescue the souls of campaign world inhabitants from annihilation by The Hunger. Because of this, every toon should have the skill required to wrangle unbound thralls and slot them into soul gems, crafted items and structures. Initial rank in TO should be zero. Additional rank in TO should count against the total number of skill points available to any toon in the cap. Maximum TO rank should be modified by starting runes, promotion class, and disciplines chosen. I expect TO become a crafting specialty. 

TO should be a Spirit-based skill.

The (RNG) chance to successfully wrangle a thrall found in a campaign world should be modified by Spirit, TO rank, and Affinity. 

Affinity would be affected by archetype, promotion class and disciplines shared by the TO and thrall being wrangled (similarity breeds affinity).

 

Soul gems are the preferred vessels for transporting and storing thralls for these reasons:

  1. They are reusable. A thrall can be slotted into and out of one without destroying the soul gem, unlike equipable items.  Unslotting a thrall from a building, resource factory, siege engine, or caravan wagon would only cause 10% damage to the structure and that can be repaired. Unslotting a thrall from an equippable item reduces that item to scrap resources.
  2. Each weighs the same as a coin and takes up the same amount of inventory space.
  3. Thrall time of service exchanged for their rescue is suspended while the thrall is slotted into a soul gem.
  4. The higher the quality of soul gem, the higher the Spirit of the thrall it can contain.
  5. There is a particular type of gem used for each thrall archetype:
  • Ruby - Fae Assassin
  • Diamond - Stoneborn Forgemaster
  • Emerald - Druid
  • Bloodstone - Champion
  • Sapphire - Guinecean Duelist
  • Topaz - Ranger
  • Peridot - Elken Stalker
  • Opal - Knight
  • Citrine - Confessor
  • Zircon - Frostweaver
  • Spinel - Minotaur Myrmidon
  • Amethyst - Centaur Legionaire
  • Carnelian - Templar

Transferring a thrall between soul gems or into an item or structure slot requires an additional TO check.

Thralls unslotted by an unsuccessful TO check, item destruction, or structure destruction will remain in place, stunned by the displacement before they move toward the closest POI they would choose to haunt.

It seems like item wear should apply to these soul gems. Maybe every time a thrall leaves one, the player should make a Hunger resistance check to see if it gets damaged 20%, along with death decay, like everything else on the dead toon carrying it.

I think the K-Mart of MMO's already exists!  And it ain't us!   :)

I suspect we'll find that soul gems are single use only. Empty gem -> thrall ball -> consumed during application to structure or item.

Just a small twist on the thrall enhancement end maybe you could slot different crystals to give your npc's powers like slot a fire crystal to give the guards fire magic.

I really don't see why thralls cannot use 1 skill they were really good at in life each (even if that skill was a fireball).

Of course, They would have to use the player's mana.
