Campfire !?

Recommended Posts

Neat small idea that works. If it had any value to cooking food or keeping off the cold in Winter Season then that would be even better. It adds to immersion as well..... "Should I risk a fire in enemy territory for  cooked food or deal with debuffs until my scouting mission is over?"

I actually love this idea. During the Winter season you obtain a debuff that reduces the damage you do, increases the damage you take and reduces your stamina by a certain amount depending on how long you spend out in the cold. As mentioned above, it could only be removed by a campfire or spending a short amount of time in an inn.

For a really hardcore experience, though perhaps this could be limited to a Shadow or Dregs ruleset, a certain amount of stacks will result in a slow but steady decrease of health until death.

Overall I'd suggest the debuff stacks fairly slowly, like perhaps a stack an hour or something, and the amount of stacks resulting in the above mentioned 'hardcore' mode should be something like 5-10, no less.

YES! HARDCORE EXPERIENCE!

There's also the chance for some Ranger integration. It's stated in their backstory that they're the ones who go out in the cold, as a world is dying, for those too stupid, stubborn or injured to get home themselves. In light of this they could have an ability/entire promotion class that focuses on helping those stuck out in the cold. Perhaps an ability that reduces the amount of stacks of the debuff, or even a way to get someone home fast if they're incapable of doing so themselves cause perhaps the debuff also reduces movement speed (there could also be other reasons but I'll keep them to myself until I know they'd actually be even a viable thing to consider.)

The Ranger themselves might also have some form of resistance or immunity to the cold, along with the Frostweaver.

There was a thread back when before I left Forumfall that discussed the idea of "sitting". I think these ideas are hand in hand, for better recovery and bonus against cold or whatever the fire gives, you need to be sitting around a campfire. If you're ambushed during this time then you need to stand up and equip your weapons before you can retaliate, adding an interesting risk dynamic to setting up camp.

If there are campfires, I would like them to deal damage and/or a debuff to anyone that walks through them so that fire could be used as a tool. You could have the classic ring of fire to keep beasts out, a wall of fires as a soft sort of crowd control, you could give a warm reception to a force about to beach your castle gates, maybe you could make a pit of flames you could knock people into and watch them burn. It could be a very versatile tool.

AND Confessor...when you can generate fire at will...you are NEVER cold.

Druids are one with nature, thus natural resistances also make sense.

The larger races (we specifically know about centaurs) will require more energy in the winter.

Frankly, I'd be very surprised if this isn't included in a meaningful way. They've mentioned food and cold (or, as the devs put it, warmth) will be a factor in gameplay, especially in the Winter. Hunting, gathering, cooking, and surviving were advertised as being very meaningful to the game. Need to remember that not only has this been marketed to be a pvp game, but a survival game as well.

General FAQ - It has elements in common with strategy games, political simulators, survival games… and a few elements that don’t really exist anywhere else.

A game mechanic that adds risk with reward is a great idea. If we get cumulative damage, stamina strain, mana cap reduction, etc and only an inn back in our town can remove it or a campfire in unprotected wilds would be great.

I like this idea.

You know, we can condemn starting duplicate threads, or we can condemn necros, but we can't in good conscience do both.

Yeah...I don't normally check when I comment in threads but...I prefer new threads I believe if the person has a new take on an old idea.
