Cool music, it has been a long time that I've listened to the Beatles.

I don't know what the vision of J Todd / Gordon is really. I wonder if the Eternal Kingdoms were part of the original vision, or if it was added later because making a PvP only with loss of material progress and constant server wipe was something too hardcore for most of the MMO gamers. Some people say that the vision has changed, but I fail to see how they can really know. I feel like what has been described in December in the manifesto is pretty much what they're still trying to create.

People are jumping ship and you know what? I have nothing at all that comes to mind to change their minds. Sad poorly made socks.

@courant101@canth sorry sometimes it's hard to know what context a comment is coming from.

You are right Courant.  Hard to even determine what the vision even was anymore.  We have not heard the term in a long long time and the welcoming post that was here when we signed up Jan 6th, no where to be found. Back then the word" vision" was used alot. We clung to it.  Along with the manifesto.    Yea, if some of us hadn't kept it , it would never be seen by ppl arriving post KS'er.

Those that were here from Day 1 KNOW what we are talking about though.  And we see a "change".  It's there, sadly.

But, in a way you are right, if someone asked me, today, what the "vision" is, I probably could not accurately tell them.

Just seems to me " not for everyone" " we only need a few thousand of like minded individuals"  " eagles don't flock"  " this is a niche game" has turned into an E for everyone , let's bring everyone in type game.

No shock when ppl are disappointed.

Maybe it not about the happy ending. Maybe it's about the story.

I think that right now the developers are too busy getting the game ready asap because they only have about 2 more months to finish all the pre-alpha build. So they might not want to spend time trying to find a solution to accommodate a certain group of forum users for now... but I'm pretty sure that they will be trying to improve the forum atmosphere as soon as they have the time to really think about what's the best way to achieve it. A kind of middle ground between the request of the hardcore PvPers (low moderation forum) and what is good for ACE business and reputation, from a legal standpoint too, because no company wants to waste money on lawsuits.

Canth, I appreciate the kind words! I just think about all those people who pledged a lot of money to support the project, spent time to create some awesome fansites, made cool artworks, podcasts, wikis, interviews, blogs, videos... All those people are really crucial to the success of the community and Crowfall as a whole.

WHERE DID WE GO WRONG?

There was a time when our industry took CHANCES.

Our games didn’t have to appeal to everyone, and we didn’t judge ourselves solely on mass market success.

With amusement park games, it’s impossible to lose. With sandbox games, it’s impossible to win.

If you can’t win and you can’t lose, then

WHAT'S THE POINT OF PLAYING?

I don’t want to kill more rats, fill another experience point bar or collect another meaningless badge.

I want to play a GAME, against PLAYERS where my actions, my decisions and my SKILL will determine if I win or lose.

Allies. Enemies. Alliances. Betrayal. Risk. Conquest. To compete with THOUSANDS of other players for a chance to claim the THRONE.

Even if I lose, the experience won’t feel hollow. I don’t want another worthless trophy.

I WANT TO PLAY TO CRUSH.

Play to crush has always been the vision.

crowchan post to crush never has been.

Any judgement made at this point in the development of the actual game based off of the forums is ridiculous.

Have the forums not met the expectations of a vocal minority?  Yes.

I believe you said something different once. Wasn't it back in January that you said the game starts here on the forums?

What made you change your mind in such a short amount of time. Perhaps it wasn't you... but it was one of the old mods...

Personally, I agree with their sentiment.

It was this.

I haven't read through the 8 pages of this thread, but it is a similar conversation being had in a few others. Things I want to point out (that I am simply repeating here again): 1. A difference of opinion of what this game is or isn't does not equate to a personal attack or should be considered as being hostile 2. Forum banter makes for great fuel for political payback 3. What anyone else says, thinks, suggests, etc. is only speculation, unless and until, an official ArtCraft employee states otherwise 4. The best way to disagree with someone who simply refuses to understand your point of view is to not reply back to them

Things we do know, as stated by previous communications from the devs. There will be PvP in this game, which if it includes land and resources conquering, will be extremely brutal for anyone who does not have any experience with that type of game. Politics start today, so start brushing up on your forum skills and start to find friends willing to fight, because you will need them. There will be commerce, so there is going to be a place for those who enjoy crafting and not being soldiers all the time. They are going to integrate these two communities in ways that are unknown to any of us at this point.

From experience, I can also tell you that nothing said in these forums will be as heartbreaking and frustrating as losing your town, city, property, clan (whatever type of land conquering game this turns out to be) the first time. Nothing.

I look forward to playing with and against all of you. Friendships made during strife are usually long-lasting, so get ready to invest some emotions into this. If done right, this will be the best virtual experience any of us has ever had. Cheers!

Maybe it not about the happy ending. Maybe it's about the story.

I've been consistent on my opinion.  Forums are important to a PvP game.  The political forum part of Shadowbane had as much if not more depth than the actual game.  Nations were built / destroyed through forums.

Did that mean you could crap post, spam, link pornography, curse, or personally attack people?  Not at all.  Those forums were a mess because there was no accountability to banning an account.  Poster is banned, five minutes later they'd be back with a new account.  It sucked.  A nation lost their city and didn't like in game consequences to their forum personalities... why not porn blast the forums all weekend.  Hooray!  Fun for all!

Those things happened.  Is it what made the SB forums so memorable?  No.  It wasn't.  To create that forum experience here we need a game that creates emergent PvP experiences.  The politics and forum intrigue came after the game.  Not before.

I had the same account for years, like 8k posts. And those posts were politically charged to the max. There were people I hated. I was racist, sexist, misogynistic, homophobic, homoerotic, personal attacks, telling people to dirl or diaf, etc. I've had more moderator action in 4 weeks here than I've had in 4 years on the UBI forums. We can factor in some evolution of gaming attitude for the last decade, fine.

But the bias now over epeen is greater than the bias experienced then when I was burning their city and rubbing it in their face.

That's not what's happening here. At all.

Someone like 7B can get away with saying that a wide range of players are "disgusting human beings" (thanks for the reminder, headlight), while others can't even post a gif without getting multiple warning points and suspensions. Consider I could get a WP for THIS post..

If such a thing were happening, track record would probably be a factor.
