Practical Keybinds

Recommended Posts

It#s about attracting new players! Those "this seems kinda fun i wanna try this" player. Game do not survive without those players. Guess why WoW is so sucessful! They make it easy to get into. It is not, i repeat, not good that shush everybody away that comes new to the game. We are looking for is that a game is easy to get into but still provides a great amount of depths. (https://youtu.be/BWFzFsHc75U?t=2m43s you should really check this out)

WTF does that have to with changing the default keybind layout?!  In fact, the video (which is not new and definitely doesn't fit all games) supports retaining the standard default keybind layout that other games use, with the option to rebind the keys later.

Still, there are common gaming features and mechanics that experienced gamers within the community will provide tutorials for, that don't need to be fully explained by the developer, as long as it's implemented like most other games in a way that should already be naturally familiar.

Regardless if the player stumbles onto Crowfall as an individual, it's still largely a group/guild based game.  New players to this type of MMO will not survive solo in CF, like they can get by in most MMORPGs where they can solo quest nearly all of the PvE content without talking to anyone and participate in 1v1 arenas or jump into a pug battleground.

Crowfall isn't for everyone, especially those new to this type of MMO.  There's no reason why Ace should be expected to devote resources in educating new players to MMO basics.... or even gaming basics like keybinds.

I think young kids now have grown up so much around technology and video games compared to when we were younger that they're much better at it. It just clicks more for them.

It is amusing however if you take those same kids and have them do non-tech related things. They get this confused scared look on their faces as they haven't a clue.

only if they live in a console vacuum.... but this wanders off into parenting and so far off topic, should stick to keybind discussions here.

I agree with Amar... in that as long as the UI has a standard consistency in function, most players, especially kids, can figure it out with a simple few word instructions on the screen.... even without.  Nobody should need their hand held that bad in CF, otherwise they should use google, which will provide plenty of articles and videos on keybinds, which are pretty much very similar across all games.
