So the ranger and assassin are both listed as Specialist (Stealth)

Now i know we havent really gotten any information on these classes (i dont think) or what that means so this is just a speculation and discussion thread.

The main reason i bring this up is because, in PvE games stealth is a pretty simple concept. I use "random stealth skill" monster AIs have less chance or no chance of noticeing me, then i get behind monster and backstab for infinity damage and win.

In crowfall with its heavy PvP focus what do you think stealth will entail? Simple hiding will not work very well if people are just naturally perceptive (and we are games so we are pretty perceptive, M I Rite Guiz?!?!), also 3rd person makes it easier to notice things in a larger view radius.

So what kinda things do you wanna see or expect to see with these "stealth" classes.

Personally i dont want pure invisibility, i dont know why it just seems kinda cheap to me.

Also how will these stealth classes work in combat? Typically stealth means sneak up and kill, will they be allowed to just instagibb one person and then be locked in combat with that person team, but what happens when the stealth character is committed to the combat, do you think they would be able to hold their own? Would a majority of their damage come from the surprise attacks and then they severely lose their DPS once noticed and the enemy can react to them better?? or will they still be actively able to fight in full combat scenarios.

I think permanent invisibility stealth is a crutch and a lame mechanic.  I hope they don't copy SB in that regard.

Even WoW was better, considering people can see you if you get too close, but even that is excessive, imo.

Warhammer Online is the only MMO I've seen that did stealth even halfway decent. Most others were just insanely broken.

In WAR, you had 1 30 second stealth skill on a pretty long CD and while you were stealthed you lost action points (used for almost all of your abilities). So you could stay in stealth for awhile, but the longer you were invis, the less AP you had when you came out of stealth. You were also limited in what abilities you could use while stealthed and none of your openers were crazy 1 shot kill nonsense we see in most MMOs.

You could also be seen by enemies if you walked in front of them which made stealthing more tactical and skillful.

If stealth is anything like GW2 I would probably sell everything in my KS package to recoup my money and be done with CF forever without a second thought. Absolutely the most absurdly broken BS I've ever seen in a game.

I don't appreciate plain invisibility stealth, but I'd like to point out that in a manual aiming game, there's nothing stopping you from hitting your foe, you can simply spam attacks and hope you hit them, or use PBAoE to drive them away.

Furthermore, particle effects generated by hitting a foe can reveal their location even if their invisible.

Invisibility is far less effective in a manual aim game.

Good Read on the interview. Evil eye mechanic would me cool where if you see a stealther you can cast evil eye and it lets you see that player for 10 sec or something. Also:
Gordon: We definitely see the “anti-stealth” character as a valid playstyle. I remember playing an Aracoix in SB whose job was to watch out for the stealthers, pop them out of stealth and put a bleed and a snare on them! The archetype we have tentatively identified to cover this role at launch is the Stalker – and we want to mirror this skill set across one or more disciplines, as well. (I’m sure bounty hunter would be one of them.)

GW is a shadowbaner in hiding this poorly made socks just got real!

I hope they do something close to SB. i never felt like it was really that overpowered i wish they just would have given the ability to detect hidden to a couple more classes beside scout...

Sure would be nice to see aracoix as a race here too.

Totally agree, even though it was a perma stealth it always felt balanced the stealth anti stealth balancing felt like a sneaky duel between scouts assassins and thieves

I do not want the stealth in Crowfall to have only one class with the max skill needed to see max level stealth as that system created too much power in the scout class. I would rather this time around the ability to detect hidden players would be max level for several classes as a skill or a unlockable as a discipline at the least.

I want perma stealth!

Its the only thing that keeps the solo player alive and viable!

A good stealth player can fight/kill an entire group ( unless there is a scout of course)

This is actually an indication that stealth is broken, especially if this game has a shallow power curve anyway.  If three level 1's can kill an epic fully geared character, why should an epic stealth character be able to take a group of epic characters?

Though the game is not meant to be balanced, stealth, at least, needs to be balanced.  I like it, and I would love to use it, but detection needs to be viable, and equally potent.  Invisibility purge disciplines, perhaps?
